On Corridian Wings: Mira's Deception
I like books where authors make use of a variety of sub-genre elements. My favorites combine paranormal, fantasy, science fiction, and erotica elements. Thus, when the opportunity to review Steve W. Boiseman's On Corridian Wings: Mira's Deception arose, I jumped at it. Not only would I get the pleasure of reviewing what I hoped would be an "out-of-this-world" story, but I would make the acquaintance of a new author; one who I hoped, after the reading of this book, would turn into an auto-read author.
Corrilean, Lars Dax, has deserted his Confederation fighter pilot post. With a bounty on his head, he seeks his abducted sister, Elenii. Following a tip from a drunken pilot, he ends up on Karacos where he makes the acquaintance of Mira, a human woman who said she knows the whereabouts of Elenii. However, although he wants to believe in Mira, there is something about her story that screams "liar."
Mira is a member of the Solaran Intelligence Corps; her job to gain entrance, surreptitiously, to Dantilus Muss's palace on Velos. Once there, she will use her mind reading skills to gain knowledge of the Rillians' strategic intentions toward the Confederation. However, she must first find her way there. How is she going to do this? By being in the right place - the Hairy Knobb - Bawdy Town's most disrespectable brothel, at the right time - the moment of sexual orgasm when Lars's mind would open to her allowing her to gain his trust. Once he believes her, Mira is sure the winged Lars Dax will take her aboard his ship, Thor's Hammer, using her to find his sister among the sex slaves at Dantilus's palace.
Lars is a caring individual who goes out of his way to help those in need. His determination to not only find his sister, but also, keep all those under his command safe, is admirable. Mr. Boiseman's description of this sexy winged Corridian male makes me wish I could leap into flight with him.
Mira is a strong willed, self-reliant woman willing to do whatever it takes to complete her mission. That is why I delighted in her coming to the realization that the means doesn't always justify the end. Her regret at using Lars was touching.
Secondary characters like Ambassador Triskelion and the crew of Thor's Hammer, as well as the secondary plot within a plot, help keep this story moving forward at breakneck speed.
The sex is down and dirty. Some readers may not want to read this story if they find f/f sexual relations and ménages objectionable. But for those that like their stories erotically HOT this story is for you.
Steve Boiseman's On Corridian Wings: Mira's Deception really does combines erotica with action, fantasy, science fiction and paranormal elements making for a true "out-of-this-world" read. I can't wait to read the second in this series, On Corridian Wings 2: Teche. Hopefully Teche, with its fly by the seat of your pants action, will answer all the questions which Mira's Deception leaves unanswered. It does seem likely that Mr. Boiseman is going to become one of my auto-read authors. (Smile)
