As Ashlynn Doucette is trying to gather information for a money laundering case she is working on as a Federal Agent for the United States Treasury Department, she is injured in the line of duty. Luckily for her, Sheriff Gabriel Theriot was at the bar and able to bring the ruckus to a close, while also bringing Ashlynn to the hospital. Gabe can’t stand seeing her hurting. He’s been in love with Ashlynn for eight years, and while he knows she’ll never reciprocate his feelings, there’s no way he’s going to stand by and let her get hurt.

When Gabe rescues Ashlynn, all the hidden feelings she’s has for him come to the forefront and all she can think about is how caring and kind he is. Before either of them quite realizes what is happening, they are kissing and soon, doing more than that. The feelings between them are explosive, and neither can get enough of each other. However, all feelings aside, Ashlynn has to concentrate on her case, which is turning out to be a lot different than any case she’s dealt with before. But with Gabe by her side, Ashlynn knows they’ll catch the crooks, whatever it takes.

Ashes in the Wind is the sequel to J.J. Massa’s Electric Rayne. Ashlynn is the daughter of the first story. J.J. Massa’s patented sensuality, alpha heroes, and daring take charge heroines are all present in her latest story. Gabe and Ashlynn light up the pages with their Cajun sparring, their flirting and their erotic lovemaking. Since they have known each other for most of their lives, one would think that they don’t have many surprises in store for each other, but as both Gabe and Ashlynn learn, falling in love creates many surprises all in itself. Gabe stands out amongst Ms. Massa’s heroes because he is so very gentle and devoted. He is very primal, there is not doubt about that, but this reviewer sees a softer side to him that really makes him a charmer. Ashlynn’s abilities really help her get out of some tight spots, and also create some humorous moments in the story. All in all, Ashes in the Wind is another fun and creative read from J.J. Massa. You’ll never fail to enjoy yourself if you pick up a copy of any of her stories, this one is no exception.
