First Dance

First date or is it fate? Vivien Shelton, Julia Spinelli’s best friend, is a high-priced, renowned, divorce attorney in Manhattan who does not believe in happy-ever-after. She is not looking forward to going to Fredericksburg, Texas for Julia’s wedding. Viviens’s has already had a run in with Julia’s fiancé’s family when she represented Kiki Sonntag’s husband in their divorce. The man who represented Kiki in the divorce, JB Anglin just happens to be the Sonntag family attorney and the man she had a night of hot, steamy, erotic sex with. However, Vivien comes from a long line of divorced women and maintains her anti-commitment and anti-marriage stance.

JB is divorced himself but still has his ex-wife in the picture. He is not a big fan of women and thinks that women who cheat are worse than “Emu Poop”. JB has been almost celibate since his divorce four years ago except for the mind-blowing sex with Vivien. What happens when Vivien shows up in Texas? Does JB’s ex-wife want him back? Oh, how Vivien gets JB’s motor running and vice a versa. JB certainly has a score to settle with Vivien.

I really loved the words that Karen Kendall uses to describe things, for example “Emu Poop”, saying JB thought that Vivien Shelton reminded him of a “Doberman” in the court room. You can see the images as she portrays them with her wonderful wording. I have many favorite parts of the book especially when Vivien and JB have a run in at a restaurant with everyone commenting on what happened. Vivien is a strong woman who has endured a lot and is not a victim in any way shape or form. It is great to see a strong woman in a book, not some weak, helpless woman begging for help.

First Dance is so well written that you will cheer for the characters as well as rejoice with them. You will find yourself tempted, teased and pleased as you read the book. Never have I enjoyed so much reading about a strong man and woman as they struggle to overcome their differences, life styles, and way of life. Can Vivien and JB make a go of it or is lust all there is? JB’s widowed mother is so endearing you will be wishing that she was part of your family. Will JB and Vivien survive the dance of romance?
