Seven Minutes to Noon

Gone in sixty seconds? What happens if your best friend, who is just like a sister, disappears, missing without a trace?

That is what happens to Alice, her dearest friend Lauren is gone. No trace of her is to be found. Lauren and Alice are both pregnant. While Lauren is eight and a half months pregnant, Alice is only six months pregnant; both are going to be mothers for the second time. Alice thinks someone is following her. Is someone or something out to take her from her family? Even as Alice takes in Lauren’s son to raise as her own, the suspects keep coming. Tim, Lauren’s husband, is really upset that she is missing! Or is he? Who can she trust?

Seven Minutes to Noon by Kate Pepper is filled with twists and turns, and fraught with suspense. When there is a missing woman, you start looking around to see if anyone is following you. I was kept guessing from start to finish. I was ready to make sure my doors were locked when I finished reading this book. While slow starting in the beginning, the pace picks up until you are sitting on the edge of your seat, biting your nails hoping against all hope that there is no serial killer and that Lauren will return unharmed.

One of my favorite parts was when both women were served with an eviction notice to get out of their apartments. Lauren, a lawyer, is fighting the system and big business while Alice is fighting for the right to stay until they can buy a home. Not only are there so many different things going on in the story, it makes you want to grab your child, hug them and hold on to them for dear life. While the story takes place in Brooklyn, it could be in any city in any place in the world. You are drawn into looking at strangers, your neighbors and friends all differently after reading Seven Minutes to Noon by Kate Pepper.

The characters are well portrayed with each holding and grabbing a part of you, wishing you could save the world and get rid of all the evil that is out there. I found myself identifying with the emotions and feelings of the characters, rooting as well as empathizing with them as they went through the discovery of what really happened to Lauren. Suspense is definitely in this book! Well worth reading!
