~Ellen Ashe~

I panic if I go under water. I don’t like heights. I can’t wear anything tight around my neck. I’m a packrat~ very little gets thrown out and I obsess about having a pantry full in case of emergencies. I love to sit quietly and listen to the dawn, the twilight; I watch the stars and the ocean and think of what is eternal. I dream in color. And I seem to sense when something or someone isn’t quite ‘right’. All my life friends and strangers both have poured out their problems to me. And writing, that steady stream of creativity, springs from an unknown source deep within my imagination.

“Where do you get these ideas?” I have been asked. I shrug. Honestly, I can’t answer. It’s all just there, the voices crying to be heard, their stories using me as simply a conduit. Most of the time I feel I have little to do with the stories I write, except to sense the urgency of getting them told, do justice to the characters that are always within my heart.

Then I sat down with a Psychic. I picked ten cards and one by one she began to explain.

“In this life you won’t go without. Stop hoarding. In a past life you went without but you needn’t worry now. You have an energy that draws people to you with their problems. That energy attracts spirits as well; they follow you, you hear them, but mean no harm. You have a wisdom that comes from long ago. In that past life you were a Keeper of Knowledge, a witch. That knowledge has followed you. It resides in your talent.”

She smiled and said, “Answers aren’t always found in the New Age section of a bookstore. Sometimes they’re found in Fantasy. Those authors are the Old Souls.”

I was, quite honestly, dumbstruck. I had sat down thinking the reading would be entertaining only. I stood up enlightened.

And now I realize why I write easily, why my stories are so real to me, why I love my characters so. I have ventured a step closer to understanding that unknown source that springs deep from within my imagination.
