Hattie’s Preacher

David Long was a very successful lawyer, who was tired of defending the guilty of their crimes. Then one day God called David to be a minister. Through extensive study of the bible, David realized God had his life all mapped out. The pastor at the Mortonville, Illinois church was very ill so the Church officials of Philadelphia chose David to take his place.

After witnessing the disaster of her two friend’s marriages, Hattie Fairchild decides that she never wants to get married. When her partner in business dies, she becomes the only seamstress and tailor in town. Hattie was very proud of being the church pianist, but was concerned that if the new minister found out the few secrets she had, he would replace her.

One Saturday when Hattie went to the church to clean the piano and pickup the music requested for her to play on Sunday, she ran into David. Everyone had told him about the mysterious Miss Fairchild. Quite taken with her, he decided wanted to get to know her better. The attraction between them was growing. The trials David and Hattie had to face would affect their lives greatly.

Hattie’s Preacher is a very special story. Ms. Derr-Wille shows how her characters can overcome the abuse in their lives, through their strength…and their faith. Sherry Derr-Wille does a fantastic job handling the emotions and the interaction of the characters with each other within the story line of this book, and for this, I give her 5 angels.
