Gift of Flesh

Miakaela knew from age twelve she was Gift of Flesh. She used to worry about where she'd go and what exactly would happen to her, but soon realized she had no control over her future and got on with life in the harem. On the day she meets the Envoy Naissun, who will take her to her new home, she finds out where she will live and with whom – the King of Royoun. When they leave her home, she knows she will never see it again. Just hours after leaving her home, Miakaela experiences the brutality of two men who came upon her and Naissun and want her, after they are dispatched, reaction sets in, and she leans into Naissun and realizes how much she trusts him to keep her safe from any harm. The longer they are together, the more in love with him she becomes. But, they both know that to act upon that love…could very well be the death of them both.

Naissun hated that he had to act as Envoy to the King. When he first saw Miakaela, she was the most beautiful woman he'd ever seen. He'd been told she would be difficult to handle on the journey back to Royoun, but he found her to be quite the opposite and so very sweet. The feelings he was having towards her were wrong, but he couldn't help falling in love with this sweet and loving woman. Is there no way for Naissun and Miakaela to be together?

Ms. Lau has written a short, 40-page story that contains all the elements of a larger book. We watch as these characters try to fight falling in love and the path they take. The author has given the readers a story that will hold them from the first word written to the last. These characters are so well described; they seem to leap off the page into the readers living rooms to tell their story. If you are looking for a story that is uplifting, then I highly recommend this one, you will not be disappointed.
