Vigil Of The Christmas Lights
Christmas time has always been…active. Zora Harper has come to realize that everything good and bad that has ever happened in her life, happened near the holidays. Her father dies before Christmas, but she met her husband. Losing her ideal and loving the man of her dreams. It’s a balance, but frightening. Frightening in that Zona continually waits for the other shoe to drop, the next catastrophe.
When she was a little girl, Zona’s father bought her a string of Christmas lights. She has held on to those lights, every year, through every occasion watching the bulbs break and the filament burn out…one by one. Down to the last bulb, Zona is heart broken when her daughter breaks the last bulb. When that last bulb goes, she remembers her life and comes to the conclusion that it’s time to let go, make new memories and new traditions. Forward is the only way she can go. It’s time to take charge of her life.
This is a great holiday short, full of memories, emotion and surprisingly a full novel’s amount of hope. Touching and uplifiting. An enjoyable read. Ms. Baughman has carefully woven strong emotions full of sadness and loss, and in the making of a beautiful skein, the threads shine with beauty and promise of a full and fruitful future.
