Bonds of Justice: Blade’s Decree
Undercover detective Thea Stone is hot on the trail of Joe Fowler, the man who sold her mother the drugs that killed her, when she is struck unconscious in an alley. When she comes to, Thea finds that she is on a spaceship heading for Callista, a moon of Jupiter, and that Magistrate Blade Kevlar thinks she is really a prostitute. Thea knows that manned spaceflight has not gone beyond Earth’s Moon yet, so it takes her a while to get her mind around the fact that she’s been brought to the year 2347. Blade’s job is to transport prostitutes from Earth to the future so that they can become wives for the miners of Callista, and he doesn’t believe Thea when she tells him she is a cop. In spite of their conflict, or perhaps because of it, Thea and Blade strike sparks from each other and set off an inferno that doesn’t end with the voyage.
This novella is a bit of a romp – a fast-moving space adventure with lots of hot sex! The character definition is light, but not superficial. Both of the lead characters have problems that they are trying to solve, and there is a definite conflict between the male and the female characters -- Thea keeps trying to tell Blade that she’s a cop and knows how to handle herself in a tight situation, and Blade keeps telling her to stay at home like a good little woman. The very graphic sex scenes involve male/female sex, oral and anal sex, spanking, and bondage & domination. This is apparently the first of a series, because the author gives us a peek at the next book in the series at the conclusion of this story. I enjoyed this book because of the author’s light touch, making this a story to lighten a dreary afternoon.
