Saving Grace

When drug addict Gretchen Lewis was brought into the police station in Baltimore, Detective Derek Holden didn’t really believe her assertion that someone was hunting her down and trying to kill her. Gretchen told a tale of spies and terrorists that just didn’t seem plausible. But when Gretchen asked Derek to promise to protect her friend Grace Wesley, the name stuck in his head. The next day, when Gretchen was found dead, Derek began to think that she had been telling the truth.

His fiancée having broken off their engagement two days before his wedding, Derek still had those three weeks he’d taken off for his honeymoon. Maybe he could try to find Grace Wesley, and ask her if he could help her. Little did he know that finding Grace was the easy part – it was saving Grace that would be difficult!

This is a romantic suspense novel that will keep you in suspense up until page 283! (That’s the last page.) I have to tell you that I was fascinated by the story, and kept wanting to know what would happen next, which kept me busily reading much later into the night than I should have. Grace and Derek are on the run almost from the moment they meet, and the surprises just keep coming. The story is carried by these two characters almost exclusively – kind of like a movie with only two actors. Luckily, the characters are realistic and interesting enough to handle it. The romance in this book is sensual, but not at all explicit – most of the focus is on the suspense with the romance interwoven. The publisher rates it PG-13, meaning “your twelve-year-old may ask awkward questions that make you blush.”
