Jaded Hunter
Jaden is a vampire hunter, trained by her uncle at a very young age to kill. She does it because she believes she is right in what she is doing, eradicating the world of the evil vampires. When something happens and she is tricked into killing an innocent, she is devastated. She is a dhampir, half vampire and half human, which means that she can usually feel whether her intended prey is guilty or not just before she kills them. This time, two people were sent to help her, and just as they finished him off, she realized he wasn’t the right vampire. Now she wonders if she was ever right in what she did, and just wants to die. Jaden finds what she thinks is a young vampire that won’t know her for what she is, and tries to get him to kill her. Little does she know, this vampire is one of the most powerful of his kind.
Tyr has seen much through his long life. An enforcer for the vampire council, he is one of the most powerful vampires around. He is considered judge and executioner, and they only send him out for difficult jobs. This time they’ve sent him to judge an unusual case, a dhampir. They usually don’t survive because of their unusual ability to feel others emotions, but this one did and seems to be very good at killing vampires. She had been killing the ones that deserved it, but they were concerned that there might be a problem because she killed an innocent. He never imagined that the first time he’d meet her would be in an alley, wanting to die.
Jaded Hunter is a spectacular story that puts you right with the heroine Jaden. When I initially started the book, Jaden seemed cold and distant, and I wasn’t sure I was going to like her. After a while, I started to see why she is that way, and I understood her better and started to care about her.. Tyr was the same way, arrogant and demanding until you knew him better. The characters had a lot of chemistry, and set the pages on fire with their passion. There is a lot of violence and fighting in the book, but it’s not gratuitous, you can understand perfectly why it needs to be there (she is after all, a vampire hunter). I thought one of the best things about this book is that all the characters are complicated and take time to get to know. Truly a joy to read, I couldn’t put it down until I was done with the story.
