A Viking’s Vow

When a Viking makes an oath can he really be trusted to honour it?

Eirik had watched the stunning female warrior in awe. Her small body was perfection itself; her strong muscular physique and striking features made him determined to have and protect this woman. Alongside her people, she had bravely held her own against her Viking enemies for many days. When she tired, Eirik the Fierce had thought to knock her out. Like a wild animal, she would fight to the death to avoid capture. He had also caught her wolf, because the value of its pelt would make it a prize for other Vikings if it was left to run free.

Now he must find a way to tame this brave warrior without breaking her spirit. In the eyes of his fellow Vikings, the woman is his slave and is expected to behave with humility. She cannot be seen to question or stand up to him; proof of her compliance includes an act of forced sex in front of his men. No woman has ever kept Eirik in a constant state of arousal as this one does. Eirik intends to keep her as his woman, binding her with his mesmerizing and tantalising lovemaking. Her limited sexual experience is a bonus because it means that he will see her wonder as she explores her sexuality.

Even though she was bound, Sable had tried to resist the huge silver haired Viking. He was battle scarred and powerful, with the face of a heavenly angel. She is stunned at how quickly his erotic prowess cuts through her defences. Sable had never known that sex could be this good, and is unable to slow the responses of her body. Eirik has promised to protect her and her wolf, Midnight, but she refuses to be forced to be his slave. Sable is a proud Solarian Wolf Warrior and a leader, and she is used to being in control. When Eirik had looked deeply into her eyes during lovemaking and asked for her consent, she was so highly aroused that she was unable to deny her urgent need for him. He may control her body, but her will is not freely given while she remains a slave. Sable has no intention of bonding with the Viking as his captive, she will find a way to escape and return to her people. Eirik believes that he has found his woman, his life mate, and he intends to keep her by his side forever.

A Viking’s Vow is highly erotic but essentially a sweet love story. Eirik the Fierce knows that the only way to protect his woman is to prove that he is strong enough to keep her. He must show the other Vikings that he can control her and will fight any challengers. His hardest task is convincing Sable that he really does love her and that his tough Viking exterior is a cover for the tender devoted feelings that he is forced to hide. Sable relies on her animal instincts for survival. When she is bound, she is unable to think rationally and feels that Eirik has taken advantage of her. She understands that she is at the mercy of the Vikings and her only choice is to obey. Sable comes to respect Eirik’s sense of duty to his people and is soon entranced in his sexual thrall, yet she wonders if Eirik had given her a choice if she would have followed him willingly.

Although the sexual acts are very explicit, they are clearly lovemaking, and develop the framework for a loyal and true bonding between the couple. This love will soon be tested and the sacrifice offered shows how much they have to lose. As a new reader to the Solarian Warrior series, I found the Wolf Warriors slightly mystifying. I would have appreciated a better understanding of this concept early in the story because it was the cause of much of Sable’s behaviour as an unwilling captive. A Viking’s Vow is an excellent short erotic tale, with a touch of historical fantasy.
