Between the Sheets

When movie critic Dylan McLean dismisses Courtney Clayton’s newest CD as something a little girl pretending to be a woman would produce, Courtney can’t help but retaliate. She wants a chance to prove to Dylan that the love ballads she sings come from the bottom of her heart, that she is a woman who knows about heartbreak and love. Dylan scoffs at her, letting her know that being twenty-two years old does not make someone an adult capable of adult emotions. Courtney is determined to prove him wrong. She seduces Dylan but gets the surprise of her life when they make love. The few boyfriends she had had in college never prepared her for the mind blowing sexual experience she shared with Dylan. It was truly making love and not just sex.

Now Courtney is determined to change her album to reflect the changes she feels in her heart, the changes she is experiencing in her life as she spends more and more time with Dylan, a man who is anything but ordinary. Unfortunately, the tabloid National Feeding Frenzy has caught on to the love brewing between Courtney and Dylan and it isn’t about to let it go unnoticed, especially when it is discovered that Dylan wrote a positive review about a movie that most other critics panned, a movie that just happens to have been made from Colossal Studios, which owns Gigantic Music. Now it looks like Dylan could be facing a lawsuit and the loss of his job. But more distressing to Courtney is the fact that he may just have sold her out.

Between the Sheets is a fun read about a child star all grown up. Courtney wants to prove that she has changed, that’s she’s not the young star all her fans remember, but she never expected to encounter someone like Dylan. He truly helped her grow up, which was reflected very nicely in the attitude change of Courtney during the story. She behaved much more childishly in the beginning, not wanting to accept Dylan’s opinions about her music, but the more time she spent with him, the more she found out what it was like to be part of a loving, adult relationship. I was a bit disappointed with the way Courtney so readily seemed to believe that Dylan had sold her out, but she most definitely redeems herself in the end, so don’t let that put you off. This was an intriguing story that really examined the life of a child star all grown up, determined to prove herself not only to her fans and herself, but to the man she loves.
