Marina Martino knows that in the long run you can’t beat Vegas, but for a while she is going to use her talent for counting cards against the system to make a few bucks. When this brash player meets up with a charming dealer, sparks fly. As Marina falls for Miguel, she believes that for once maybe she can come out on top. However, when Miguel’s past catches up with them, Marina must decide if the stakes are too high; will she gamble her heart?

Susan DiPlacido has a distinct style and voice that is reflected within the pages of 24/7. She eloquently conveys the grit and beauty that is patently Vegas. The author’s use of dialogue is unique, and when combined with colorful imagery, it is easy for readers to visualize the characters and setting. The plot is a little slow to develop, but rewarding for readers that stick with Marina to see where the cards take her this time. 24/7 is not a fluffy romance. Ms. DiPlacido removes the rose-colored glasses and shows readers characters that are well-matched, but individually far from perfect. The romance between Miguel and Marina is hot. There is no denying the intensity of their sexual attraction. However, as their romance goes from a one-night stand to much more, the trust between them is slow to develop and is riddled with doubt. Their relationship is doubly tested when they must deal with the outside pressures of Miguel’s past. Readers will enj! oy witnessing their growth while at the same time cringing at their foibles. The use of the secondary characters as a catalyst for more insight into the primary characters was well done and at times provided drama, humor, and raw grit to the story. Susan DiPlacido delivers a strong ending that more than makes up for any lulls as the story builds to a striking conclusion.
