The Beauty and the Spy

This is the second book in Callen’s “Spies and Lovers” series. It’s a fast paced, action-espionage love story that offers full-bodied characters, and a delightfully romantic storyline.

Heroine Charlotte Sinclair is tired of the party scene, the endless rounds, and meaningless gossip. What she desires is adventure. And though that is her heart’s desire, being kidnapped was not the adventure she had in mind. Eavesdropping on a conversation, she overhears a deal between undercover spy Nicholas Wright and a traitor to the Crown. Suddenly she's Nicholas’s captive!

Nicholas Wright seeks a female traitor to the Crown. He loves his job, the action, the intrigue, and it’s all better because this time in his work he gets to pose as a criminal. He meets with one of the traitor’s lackeys. The lovely widow Sinclair inopportunely overhears their conversation, now the traitors want her dead. Nicholas and his partner abduct the widow to keep her safe.

This book is a great escape. I was particularly impressed and inspired by Callen’s well-rounded and substantial secondary characters. They never stole the spotlight, but they definitely claimed my interest. I also greatly enjoyed the author’s wit and mastery of the language. I am looking forward to Sam and Julia's story that will arrive in Spring of 2005.
