No Longer Mine
As far as tortured couples go, Romeo and Juliet have nothing on Nikki and Wade. First friends and then lovers, they are people that most of us can relate to. What makes Nikki and Wade so out of the ordinary is the way they are written. Who hasn’t had their heart broken or wished with all their might that they could undo a terrible mistake? What Shiloh Walker has done is written an everyday kind of story, with remarkable characters that results in a brilliant book that I couldn’t put down.
Nikki never thought, and probably hoped, that she’d ever see Wade again. To come face to face with him and his young daughter, with eyes so familiar to her, is more than she can deal with. Of course she runs from him. Nikki’s been running from the pain Wade inflicted on her since the excruciating loss almost killer her. Denial and refusing to think of the past may not be healthy or very therapeutic but it’s how Nikki gets through each day. Loving Wade has cost Nikki more than any person should be expected to withstand. She doesn’t intend to ever let him close to her again.
Wade was shocked to see Nikki again and stunned speechless when she runs from him. It is almost like she is afraid of him. Over the years, when he allowed himself to think of her, a moment hasn’t passed that he didn’t loathe himself for what he had done, how much he’d hurt her. To Wade’s way of thinking, they’ve been given a second chance. He loves Nikki, he’s never stopped and now if he can find a way to make her forgive him, maybe he’ll get the chance to love her, as he should have the first time around.
From the very beginning, No Longer Mine will captivate readers. Within the first chapter I’m thinking to myself, “No way did that just happen!” You know you’ve gotten a great book when it starts with that much emotion and heart. No Longer Mine isn’t just about Nikki and Wade’s attempt to be together again. There’s also a family element that is all too plausible. Having parents not always there as they should be and the responsibility of her younger brothers has shaped Nikki in to the person she’s become. The same is true with Wade. The decisions he made and the outcome of those decisions made him into the man he is now. Not only that, but Wade isn’t the only one affected by what he’s done. Shiloh Walker writes all of this so well, that the ripple effect shows throughout the entire book. No Longer Mineis the type of book that you’ll stay up reading until 3 in the morning because you can’t put it down. I loved this book because not only did it touch my heart but also because the story is so compelling it makes you want to read other books by Shiloh Walker just so you can read more of the same. No Longer Mine is just an awesome read and therefore justifies a Recommended Read!
