On a vacation in Egypt with her sister Angie, Rae Lambers finds a mysterious box containing the Forbidden Tarot buried in the sands near an ancient temple. Unaware of the power of the tarot cards, Angie opens the deck and releases the evil of Typhon the Devil into their lives. Following the suspicious sudden death of her friend and mentor Dr Thomas Gregory, unexplained events begin to plague Rae and those she cares about.

Michael Gregory had been a close childhood friend until a dark secret ruined their relationship. Forced back together because of the circumstances of his father’s death, Michael and Rae try to work together while overcoming the hurt and betrayal each feel. Considering the animosity between herself and Michael, Rae doesn’t understand his hatred of her current boyfriend Simeon. Though Simeon has awoken a passion that she never knew she had, it is Michael that she can’t get out of her thoughts. But one of them is hiding something very dangerous. Will Rae be able to solve the mystery surrounding Dr Gregory’s death as well as discover the truth behind the Forbidden Tarot?

If you like a great paranormal mystery, this is definitely one to add to your keeper shelf. Patricia Simpson has created many unique and interesting characters in this story. Rae is not your perfect female. Suffering from a debilitating disease and trying to overcome a tragic past, she is as real as it gets. Her thoughts and emotions are so clear and strong to the reader; her character will long stay in your memory. I was totally engrossed in this story from the moment I began reading it. The vivid descriptions and dynamic characters capture your imagination and leave a lasting impression, even after the last page has been turned. This was my first book by this award-winning author, but I can see that I will have to update my library with more books from Ms. Simpson, and soon. I highly recommend The Dark Lord.
