Former FBI agent Rae Harris is one in a long line of Harris women who have lived and died on Sullivan’s Island. She has reinvented herself after suffering devastating losses and has returned to the island after her uncanny ability finding missing children goes horribly off-kilter. Quite simply, she’s lost her nerve.

Enigmatic billionaire Steve Williams’ niece is missing and Rae is the only one that he feels can find her. The clock is ticking as he tracks Rae to the island to obtain her services, and she turns him down flat. But when her grandmother’s illness requires more money than she has, she accepts Steve’s case and begins the daunting task of recovering his niece. But, Steve has his own emotional baggage, and his glimmer of psychic ability complicates matters further..

This book does a great job of detailing Rae’s insecurities about her gift of “the sight”, her uncertainties in the scope of her abilities, and her worries about using it again. Then, there is the added problem of the disturbing visions that she begins having about Steve - erotic visions about a man she barely knows. All clues lead her to believe that Steve is holding information back and is involved in the kidnapping. Can she trust him?

I loved this edgy, fast-paced novel about one woman’s journey to truly knowing herself and fully recovering from the losses of her past. The sparks fly whenever Rae and Steve touch, and as hard as she tries to keep their relationship all business, it progresses to much more. The paranormal aspects of this work kept me interested and on the edge of my seat. Rae’s gift is powerful and, combined with the feelings that she has for Steve, she is pulled in two different directions. Can she do the job she’s been hired to do without falling helplessly in love with the man who hired her?
