Liberty’s Lady

Step back in time with Alejandro Montoya as the beautifully written Liberty’s Lady sets sail. This novel chronicles the life and times of Captain Thomas Britton, as he commands his ship during great civil and political unrest. He and his men aim to strike a blow for George Washington by capturing prize ships from the hated English and filling the Continental Congress’ empty coffers with the spoils. Thomas is a man alone, orphaned at a young age with no one to share his life.

Lady Patricia Merston, along with her Chinese servant Mei, is sailing from England to meet and marry a man whom she has never met. Having already discovered the delights of carnal love, she is leery of wedding the uptight British earl to whom she is promised. She is dismayed to find herself among the spoils of war when her ship is captured by Britton and his men, and is further irritated by the fact that she is instantly and irrevocably attracted to Thomas.

A severe storm brings the desire growing between Thomas and Patricia to a full boil, and they slake their lust together as their bodies learn what their spirits already know - that they are destined for each other.

Then, in a twist of fate, Patricia’s fiancé meets them on the high seas, and battle ensues. Have Thomas and Patricia found true love only to lose it?

This reader found Liberty’s Lady to be a lovely, in-depth look at love, friendship and sailing life in the late 1700's. Montoya has captured the period well, and his descriptive passages are extremely well done. The characters come alive and endear themselves to the reader through their experiences, and the ship and battle scenes are right on the mark. I found the piece erotic and steamy, with multiple hetero- and bi-sexual scenes, as well as graphic battle violence. Liberty’s Lady is a brilliant piece!
