Rogue in Disguise
Ophelia knew that she had fallen in love with a rogue, but should she trust him with her heart?
Ophelia’s father has foolishly lost Sheffield Park, the family home, in a hand of cards. Ophelia believes that she alone can get it back from the handsome libertine, the Earl of Rotherham. Her initial plan to talk to the Earl fails, so she decides to call on him at night and offer herself in exchange for the deed.
Charles Lynton often takes the place of his older brother, Robert, the real Earl of Rotherham at social events. They are almost identical and very few people have noticed that only their eyes are different. When Charles is told by the butler that a young woman has called late at night, initially he is angry because he senses that it is a marriage trap set to catch the Earl. However, the young woman is quite bewitching and more than a little intriguing. He is taken aback when she offers her services in exchange for a property that he knows nothing about. Sensing that he has the upper hand, Charles makes a bargain with Opehlia that he will give her the deed if she will allow him to instruct her in the art of lovemaking. She must return each night for an entire month.
Opehlia had only heard rumors of the Earl’s reputation as a talented lover. Face to face, his magnetism is hard to resist. She is eagerly anticipating their first night together, even though she will be ruined for a decent marriage. This is one time that Charles is glad to be posing as his brother. He cannot wait to sample this sweet chit’s voluptuous charms. Charles never imagines that he could be in danger of losing his heart in their bargain.
Monica Burns’ decadently sexy novel is emotional and arousing right up to the final page. Although Opehlia and Charles try to follow the dictates of society, once they have experienced mutual pleasure and desire in each other’s arms, such strictures seem meaningless. They look forward to their nocturnal adventures almost like an addiction. The fear of discovery of their illicit relationship brings a tone of danger which will draw readers into the story, and their heartrending situation makes it a page-turner. It is definitely a keeper and I look forward to Monica Burns’ next release. If you enjoy historical tales based on eroticism and undeniable love, make sure to read Rogue in Disguise.
