Shadows of Myth

So you're used to reading tales of romance and romantic suspense by Rachel Lee – well, you are in for a treat. Shadows of Myth is quite a bit different in that it is a tale of fantasy with elements of suspense. It doesn't revolve around romance, but don't let that keep you away because this story is bound to grab your attention and keep it to the very end.

With that in mind, let me ask you what you would do if you awoke amid a pile of dead bodies not knowing how you got there, who you were or why you were spared when everyone else in the caravan was savagely slain? These are the questions that one young woman awakens with, as she sets out into the snow in search of some type of shelter.

Archer Blackcloak, his friends Ratha and Giri, the Anari warriors, come upon the woman as they are trying to elude something evil after stumbling upon the caravan. They realize immediately that she is a survivor from the caravan, but she isn't able to communicate with them because she doesn't understand them and they can't understand her. However, Archer knows that there is no way she could have survived what happened at the caravan without some type of help…

Rounding off this group of four are Young Tom Downey and Sara Deepwell from the town of Whitewater. This group of six will set out to discover what evil is afoot, but the trip won't be easy, nor will it be without pain and sorrow as they seek to discover whether the Ilduin Bane are myth and legend or if they are truly real.

The writing in Shadows of Myth is wonderful. The names of the characters are original and in keeping with an epic fantasy tale. I particularly liked the name 'Bandylegs Deepwell.' Readers will identify with the feelings the woman (Tess Birdsong) has when she awakens to find herself amid dead bodies without a memory of any kind. I also identified with Tess's desperate search for her identity. Archer is mysterious, caring and intelligent, yet suspicious, which I found that I could identify with as I came to learn more about him.

Ms. Lee's use of suspenseful elements keeps you guessing. Just when you think you might be able to catch your breath, Ms. Lee throws something else at you to keep you guessing or to send the adrenaline rushing through your body. The Ilduin and Ilduin Bane are just two things I will mention that will keep you guessing, and the Lao-Sou is just an example of what will send your adrenaline rushing, but I won't tell you what any of the things are that I've mentioned so you'll have to read the book to find out for yourself. (Chuckling)

Don't miss your chance to read Rachel Lee's Shadows of Myth. This story could very well be the first in the start of a new series because Ms. Lee leaves us with this possibility and I for one, very much hope so!
