Fantasy Flames 1 – Cavern Dancer

Under threat from his brother, Jehf is forced to bed his brother’s new wife. After spending time being taught how to act like a king so that Gilana will not realize that he is not his brother, Jehf is amazed that he is instantly attracted to her.

Gilana can’t believe that the man who is fondling her is the same one who ignored her throughout their wedding feast. After a night of wonderful lovemaking, Gilana is disappointed to hear that Tabor will not be seeing her until the evening.

Stuck in his cell, Jehf contemplated his future. To not be able to see Gilana after she became pregnant was not acceptable. To give up his child to his hated brother would be criminal. What would happen when he outlived his use? Two days later his questions are answered as the Soothsayer and six guards storm his cell and drug him. Given a drug that makes it seem as if he is dead, Jehf can only lay there as the Soothsayer sails into the ocean with him. After a time, Jehf recovers control over his extremities and is told that he is to swim to the island in the distance and travel north until he finds the people ruled by a Cavern Dancer.

King Tabor thinks that Jehf is dead and that Gilana is none the wiser as to who the father of her son is. What will happen when Jehf rises from the dead? Will Gilana and Jehf live happily ever after?

I enjoyed visiting this world and all of the characters within it. Gilana strikes me as a strong woman who will do what needs to be done regardless of her feelings. Tabor is the perfect villain; you just hate him and are disgusted by his lack of humanity. Jehf is a great tortured hero with a past that makes you feel sorry for him, but not pity him. I especially loved the eeriness of the Soothsayer. The mystery that surrounded him made you want to keep reading to see what his story was. I look forward to more of these touching stories in this reality from Kate Hill. 5 Angels!
