Myla Jackson Interview

How long have you been writing seriously? What inspired you to take the plunge into the publishing world?
I’ve been writing for almost 4 years seriously. My sister and I challenged each other to do and we’ve been at it with a vengeance. Now, it’s a passion I can’t let go of.
How long did it take to find the right publisher for your works?
Not long, actually. Once I’d written Storms of Passion, I heard about Extasybooks.com and submitted. In an extraordinary turnaround of only one day, I had a response and the next day sent the full manuscript. Again, a one-day turnaround and I was in! Extasybooks has been terrific to me since.
Storms of Passion takes place in a futuristic setting. What is it about the futuristic/scifi setting that inspires you?
I’ve always been a fan of action adventure and futuristics. Star Wars inspired me as a teen and I love being able to build worlds like no other. It’s liberating.
Do you outline your stories or do you just write as you go?
I’m a person who likes a roadmap. I outline, and build my characters before I write. If the road takes a turn different from the map, I’m okay with that.
Princess Mayla and Captain Khetan really have an electric relationship. How did it feel writing such strong characters thrown into such dire circumstances? Did they live with you as you wrote?
I love it when they’re in danger and pitting their wits against the enemy. Myla’s a real leader and determined to help her people. Khetan can’ help but fall for her. But most of all I love it when they have real issues between them keeping them apart. And their attraction is sizzling!
Do you feel as if the characters live with you as you write? Do they haunt your dreams?
I immerse in my characters and let their words fly from my fingers to the keyboard. Sometimes they say the darnedest things! I cry when they cry, laugh out loud when they do and generally live vicariously through them (especially in a sexy scene!)
Do you read often, and what do you like to read? Who are some of your favorite authors?
I read voraciously. Right now, I love Jennifer Cruisie. She’s a dynamite author, builds terrific characters I can relate with and has a sharp, biting wit. Janet Evanovich is a stitch as well. As with Jennifer, her characters aren’t perfect and they have some real-life challenges with a humorous twist.
Do you believe in ‘writer’s block’? If so, have you ever suffered from it?
I believe any writer’s block is a way of procrastinating. I’ve had moments when I didn’t want to write and when I sit down to analyze I see it’s because I’m not comfortable with my characters. I work with my critique partner and sister, Delilah Devlin, to get through on a high level then I sit my but in chair and slog through it. The slog through method works for me.
How has being published changed your life, if at all?
It’s great to get e-mail from fans about my work and the reviews are terrific. It never hurts to have some positive feedback on your “babies”. I still work the “other job” and fight for every spare minute to myself to write. I’m getting up at 4:00am to get an hour in before I leave for work and try to write in the evenings as well.
Congratulations on the release of Storms of Passion. Do you wish to share some teasers with the readers?
Try this excerpt from Storms of Passion:
“No,” she breathed into his ear. Her fingers slid into his hair and she pulled his mouth closer, her tongue delving in to war with his. “The price is too high.”

“What price?” he asked, his words swallowed in her mouth.

“To take a Shandalan virgin, is to expose her to cravings that can be both strengthening and weakening.”

Khetan’s head shot up. “Virgin?”

“Yes. Does this surprise you?” She sank her teeth into his lower lip and pulled none too gently.

The pain of her hungry bite incited a fresh wave of lust throughout his body. “For a virgin, you know how to please.”

“Shandalan women are instructed in the art of pleasures at an early age.” She kissed the corner of his jaw, then teased his earlobe with the tip of her tongue.

“I find myself jealous of your instructors.” Grasping the edges of her zippered jumpsuit, he shoved the garment over her shoulders, baring her breasts to his starving gaze.

With deliberate precision, he prolonged his torture, trailing kisses, sucking and teasing along the curve of her neck. He ventured across her collarbone to hover over the rosy peaks of her perfect breasts. He darted his tongue out tapping at a hardened nipple until she tightened her hold on his hair and thrust her breast more fully into his mouth.

Khetan suckled and tasted one mound while massaging the other, growing more excited by the second.

“Once a Shandalan’s virginity is taken...” Mayla gasped when Khetan’s hand smoothed its way down to the bud of her lust. “...a Shandalan female must have consistent attention or the Effect might overwhelm her.”

Khetan’s lips followed his hand, as he kissed and licked his way down her flat stomach. He dropped to his knees, pushed the jumpsuit over her calves, and she stepped out of it. “What happens...” he began, replacing his finger with his tongue, swirling and teasing her clit. “What happens if she doesn’t get what she needs?” Kneading both cheeks of her buttocks, he tongued and suckled her cunt, drinking the cream of her desire.

“She weakens...” she breathed. “...or dies.” Mayla’s hips rocked, matching stroke for stroke of his tongue. She threw her head back, her breasts thrusting forward. Leaning against the cold, stone walls, she spread her legs wide and pushed her fingers into her pubic curls, parting her folds laying herself open to his ministrations.

Khetan almost came at her lusty abandon. “Do you want me?” he asked, tonguing her clit.

“Yes!” No hesitation. No protest.

“Show me.” His tongue increased the intensity of his carnal onslaught.

Mayla’s body shuddered and she screamed with the power of her climax. “Now!” she gasped. “I need you now--inside me!”

In one fluid movement, Khetan sprang to his feet and unzipped his britches allowing his hot length to spring free. He hooked his hands beneath Mayla’s thighs and shoved her high against the wall. Then he sank his cock deep into her slick entrance, pushing past the barrier of her womanhood.
What books can we expect to see from you in the coming year? Is there a sequel planned for Storms of Passion because he ending is left open for wonderful possibilities?
Depths of Passion is in the works. I don’t have a release date for it yet, but I hope it will be out before the end of the year.

The second book in the Shandalan Trilogy, Depths of Passion takes Sinsal, Mayla’s second in command, to the underworld, mining planet of Palathea where she is held as a sex slave for the Durakee mine owner, Lomar. Falan, the leader of the underworld people, enlists her help in freeing all the slaves of Palthea and shows her the beauty of the garden caves deep beneath the planet’s surface.
Are you working on anything right now?
I’m working on a single-title paranormal romance I hope to complete by the end of October. It’s placed in the swamps of Louisiana with Voodoo Queens and inconvenient spells. I love the story and the characters and can’t wait to see it completed!
Where do you see your writing career five years from now?
I’d like to write full time. I hope in five years I’ll be doing just that. I want to be able to schedule a variety of manuscripts during the year, ranging from scifi, to magic to humor. I like the freedom of choice when I write for Extasybooks.
Any advice for aspiring authors?
In the words of Stephen King, a writer needs to do only two things: read and write.
Anything to add like a website?
My website is a work in progress: Myla Jackson. Hopefully, it’ll have more updates by the end of the year.
Thank you so much for interviewing for Fallen Angels, Myla!
