Adrienne Kama Interview
Fallen Angel Reviews would like to welcome Adrienne Kama! Thank you, Adrienne, for taking time out of your writing schedule to answer a few questions. For those who may not know Adrienne is the author of The Nephilim War Books 1 & 2, Surrender: Tarot Card-The Devil, and an upcoming book from eXtasy Books titled Enslaved. For a sneak peak at all these wonderful books visit her site at www.adriennekama.com.
Adrienne, with the success of your books do you find it harder to write the next book? Thankfully I don’t. Once I finish a book I kind of forget about it. LOL! Typically I have my next book outlined and ready to go so I’m over eager to start on the next story. My problem is that I find it hard to concentrate on writing one story at a time. Right now I’m writing two stories and outlining another. You write a wide variety of genres. Is there any in particular that you like best or that you feel is easier to write? I love writing in the fantasy genre, which is a surprise for me because before Nephilim War: Book One I never considered myself a fantasy writer. I love the freedom of writing fantasies. I can let my imagination run wild. Even though a lot of research goes into the stories—I did a lot of historical research for Nephilim War—I love taking what I learn and twisting it a bit to suit my needs. I also love creating new worlds. In “Surrender” the first story in my Sibling Rivalry series, I didn’t have a chance to describe The Kingdom of the Two Lands in detail. With Absolom’s story I will. I’m so obsessive about my stories I map out my worlds and create all kinds of histories…strictly for my own amusement. LOL! Half of the stuff I do when I write a book doesn’t go into the actual story.Where did you come up with the idea of The Nephilim War Books? I’m a huge Biblical history buff and a year ago I started reading an apocryphal book called “The Book of Enoch”. In it the writer, writing as the Biblical figure Enoch, talks about the Watchers, angels who chose to leave heaven to consort with human females. A Watcher named Azazyel (the spelling differs according to whatever translation you read) began to teach men magic, war, and the secrets of heaven. This angered God so much that He imprisoned the Watchers beneath the earth. My thought was, what if Azazyel escaped? What would he do and how would he do it? I changed Azazyel into Azriel and I had my first character and Nephilim War was born. Is there to be a third? Yes. That one will be out in 2006. I may do a spin off series with a few of the minor characters as well.On your site you have a series of futuristic books titled T.I.T.A.N. Can you give our readers a little insight into this new set of books? The TITAN series is in the works so I’m still ironing out a lot of the details. Readers can go to my website where I’ve put up a separate site for the TITANs and check on the progress of the story as I update the site. Basically though, the TITANs are genetically altered men with very interesting abilities. They’re also incredibly sexy! What is a typical day in the life of author Adrienne Kama like? Pretty boring. LOL! The first things I do in the morning are grabbing some coffee then checking my e-mail. That usually takes about an hour to two hours. I like to be working on whatever story I’m writing by nine. I work (checking my e-mail periodically) until just after noon. At twelve-thirty or so I have to get ready for work (the really boring part of my day) then head out for the day. I’m usually home again by seven. If my husband isn’t home I make dinner then relax for a while. I’m a big fan of the O’Reilly Factor so I usually watch his show. I try to be back at my laptop by nine. If none of my writer friends are chatting that night I work on the second story I’m writing, if so I log onto the chat. At night I usually write until about one or two in the morning. I use the weekends to take care of the domestic things I ignored all week (grocery shopping, cleaning the house) and for promo stuff like updating my website, adding stuff to my newsletter, online advertising. I’m also a Cantor at my church so if I have a mass to do on Sunday I have to make sure I get enough practice in so I don’t send every parishioner running in horror from the church. Some authors have a certain time of day that they find it easier to write. Do you? If so, when? I prefer to write in the morning. I do all of my editing in the morning too. Even though I do write at night I never edit at night. My mind simply isn’t at its best. For those of us who are anxiously awaiting your upcoming release, Enslaved, can you tell us a little about this book? How did it come to be and what inspired the story behind it? Enslaved is a fantasy inspired by the adventure stories I used to read as a child. In it the heroine is transported from present day Baltimore to a realm peopled with bridge trolls, ape-men, and little people called piqty. Shortly after entering this world the heroine finds herself face to face with a company of warriors whose leader, upon seeing her, claims her as his own. Also Surrender is in a series titled Sibling Rivalry. Would you give us a little information about this series as well? Sure. The idea behind the Sibling Rivalry series came because my mother always used to tell me when I was a child that if I stared at one of the pictures in my picture books long enough I could go into it. You can’t imagine the hours and hours I sat staring into picture books as a child! Well, one day I just thought, what if? What if one day when I was reading a romance novel I was pulled in and seduced by the sexy hero? And that’s how the Sibling Rivalry series was born.Wow with all these series and books coming out, do you have time to do anything else? If so, what type of hobbies do you have? This is going to sound bad, but I don’t have any hobbies. I love music, I play guitar and sing, but I don’t do it half as much as I used to. For now the only singing I do is at church.Has being a published author changed you in any way? According to my friends and family I’m a lot less fun than I used to be. I don’t have the time to be as social as I would like because I’m always writing. Other than that I’m still the same.Do you have any tips for aspiring authors out there? Never give up on your dream. Is there anything you would like to add? Thank you so much for this interview, JoAnn. It was lots of fun.Adrienne, thank you again for taking the time out of your busy schedule to answer a few questions for us. Interviewed By: JoAnn
