Sherry Hall Mauro Interview

Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to answer a few questions for us at FAR. We appreciate all the hard work you portray in your work.

What are you working on right now?
SHADOWS coming soon fro eXtasy Books

Something Is Haunting Amanda…When stunning, model turned photographer, Amanda Soule inherits a remarkable old Manor—an English Gothic mansion in the seaside town of Carmel…she inherits much more than a mere house.

She had been here before in her dreams. But now that she was here, really here, in this beautiful, enchanting place where she could get away from the limelight and concrete on her first love—photography, something lures her away. Something sensuous and powerful, elusive and handsome, beckoning her with unfilled human desires—and unearthly passions…

Then she discovers a painting in the house of a beautiful, mysterious man named, Dominic Scarlatti, whose dark eyes seem to follow her about, a man who lived a century before. Soon after, she starts feeling a mysterious presence within the house…a compelling force of dark desire, hiding in the shadows.

And Amanda starts having strange dreams, of another life she never lived, of a love she never knew…a love that threatened to cross time and hell itself to be with her…a love that threatened to drive her to the grave.

Who is your favorite author?
I have quite a few, but right now I’m reading Victoria Holt, a wonderful gothic writer.

What is something personal that you believe your readers would like to know about you?
That I’m a horrible typist!

What is your best quality as a writer?
I think I write pretty good suspenseful, scary scenes.

What is your worse?
I think dialogue is the hardest to write in my opinion. I slave for hours on the dialogue, trying to get just right, but also try to keep it from being boring too. Most of my novels are 70% of just dialogue between the characters.

Do you believe in writers block?
Yep! It has happened to me whenever my heroine has gotten herself in a situation and I wasn’t sure where she was going, or what to do next. For example in my novel, THE FACE OF HEAVEN, I have the heroine Sabrina sneaking into a mansion to get something…but wasn’t sure what she was supposed to be taking. It took me 6 months to figure it out!

Do you have a job besides being an author? What is it?
Mother, wife, and business owner. My husband and I own a retail pet store.

As a child growing up who was your biggest hero?
Hummm, good question, but a tough one. I’ve always looked up to my parents and the examples they have set for me. They are my biggest supporters and it means a lot to me to know that they are proud of me.

What did you want to be when you grew up?
A writer, of course! I have wanted to be a writer since I was seven, and a mother. Family is very important to me.

Who is your favorite character?
Catherine Dollanganger from the FLOWERS IN THE ATTIC series by the later author, V.C. Andrews, and Scarlett O’Hara from GONE WITH THE WIND. I enjoy feisty, independent characters.

Do your characters talk to you as you write? What do they say?
Oh, yes. They began to take on a life of there own. And sometimes they say and do the darnest things! I put in a LOT of emotion too, especially in my Devour Family saga. I was pretty drained after writing the sequel; I guess it’s how an actor must feel who has to do a difficult role. But I believe it’s some of the best work I’ve ever done.
What is the biggest misconception about being an author?
That you’re getting rich!
What is the worse part about being an author?
Not getting rich? No, seriously, there is no “worse part” I’m doing what I love, touching peoples lives, and that is very, very rewarding. I can’t image doing anything else.
Could you please share some of your work with us?
Sure, my next book out this fall, on September 20th will be: THE FACE OF HEAVEN

The saga of the Devour family given to poverty and greed, to revenge and passion, to murder and lust—a family that through the generations is haunted by a powerful curse and the seductive Tate Mansion…

Vibrant beauty, Sabrina Ayers has found the kind of love she has longed for all her life in the arms of Dylan McGuire; her dream lover yet she is still haunted by her past. Then her father suddenly dies and her entire world begins to crumble. Even with a fresh start, Sabrina is once more ensnared in a frightening labyrinth of dark secrets and hidden passions that threaten to shatter the only real happiness she has ever known.

Then the arrogant, playboy Richard Tate comes back into her life and tries desperately to regain her confidence and her love …but can she trust him? Yet in his hypnotic presence, Sabrina’s fiery temperament melts the aristocrat’s icy exterior and rekindles a passion that threatens to spiral out of control, leaving her with a very difficult choice to make…

After a terrible new shock, the mystery of her family’s past deepens, for she is again thrust into the Tate Mansion’s nightmare world …There, in a house of deceit, evil, and murder, Sabrina clings to her tormenting love of two very different men.

But only one of them will be able to save her!
