Cyndi Friberg Interview

Happy Holidays and welcome to Fallen Angel Reviews. It is a pleasure to have you here.

Ontarian Chronicles 1 Taken by the Storm was just released by Loose Id. Can you tell us a little about the story?
Keeping it to `a little’ will be tough, but I’ll do my best. Taken by the Storm deals with inter-dimensional travel and one seriously sexy shapeshifting hero named Tal. He races to Earth determined to reach Charlotte (the heroine) before his archenemy. Charlotte has an essential role to play in ending the civil war raging on Ontariese, but first Tal has to convince her that she’s originally from his dimension.

Your Ontarian Chronicles are an original, intriguing series. What inspired them?
There is a wonderful fantasy artist named Ruth Thompson. I was given one of her lithographs as a gift. The name of the print is The Magi. I hung it in my office and Tal started `talking’ to me about his world.

Of all your characters to date, who are your favorite heroine and hero? And why?
Gideon from Born of the Shadows is still the hero who makes me weak fastest. I can’t resist tall, dark and dangerous. My favorite heroine would probably be Krysta from Operation Hydra, book 2 of the Ontarian Chronicles. I relate to her rebelliousness, lingering echoes of my misspent youth.

One thing that comes across in your bio is that even though you were not an overnight success, you never gave up on writing. What kept you writing?
I write because I love the creative process. Taking mental images and idea fragments and developing them into full-blown plots invigorates me. I’d written three full-length novels before I ever entertained the notion of selling one. I genuinely love to write. Giving up writing has never been an option.

Now your name is recognized and associated with quality stories. What else do you hope to accomplish with your writing?
I appreciate the complement, and my answer is in your comment. I try to create entertaining situations, throw in a surprise or two, and tell the story well. If people read my books and forget about the stresses of reality for an hour or two, I’ve done my job.

Your book Owner of a Lonely Heart was based on a song title. Did you get to pick the title?
My husband, Scott, is a big Yes fan. As soon as I told him about the line he suggested the song.

If not, what other song from the 80’s could you foresee creating a story about?
Loose Id is about finished with the imprint but I thought Def Leopard’s song Love Bites would make a fun vampire story.

You are planning a sequel to Owner of a Lonely Heart. How soon can fans expect to see Broken Wings?
Broken Wings has taken a back seat to some of my other projects. I’m working on Echoes and Embers, the next installment of the Rebel Angel series. It’s scheduled for release early next year. I still have two Dream Warriors waiting to tell their tales.

With it being the holidays, can you share your favorite holiday tradition with us?
For years the city of Denver has put on a fabulous light display against their civic center building. Our family enjoys going to Civic Center Park at dusk. When the lights come on against the majestic building it takes my breath away. Then we have dinner at the Old Spaghetti Factory down the street. The restaurant is a renovated trolley station and it’s filled with Victorian antiques. It’s charming, and the food’s not bad either.

Thank you so much Cyndi! I appreciate you taking time to speak with us. I know I will be looking for your next book. Happy Holidays and thanks again!
