Welcome to Fallen Angel Reviews and many thanks for allowing us to interview you.
What led you to becoming an author?
I think I was born being a writer, as even before I could form words I wrote my first teacher and told her she could take the day off as I would teach for her. Of course, it was just scribbles, but the intent was there.
How long have you been writing?
I have been writing with the intent of actually being published for 12 years.
What is the proudest moment so far of your writing career?
The proudest moment, was one not really connected to writing in the manner most expect. I attended a national conference of RWA and had my picture taken. I was stunned, granted these folks know how to take pictures, but for some reason seeing that professional photo made it all real for me. It gave me confidence to trust my talent. I highly recommend to any aspiring writer to have a professional photo taken.
Describe your writing process.
It starts with the first and last line of the book. I then use a manilla file folder to draft a flow chart identifying scenes and plot twists. This keeps the entire book outline on one page where I can see where I am going. This is not to say, I follow the flow chart to the letter, but it gives direction. I also use a plot book. In this I write down scenes, character characteristics, and any dialogue that occurs to me. I write everything that happened during the writing of each book. Example if I give a dinner party while I am writing a book the shopping list will be in the plot book. This creates a history of a particular book.
I loved your book
Fox in the Mist. What inspired it and
The Vixen?
I've always loved foxes and King Arthur and when I reached this point in my life I determined I could combine what I loved into one endeavor I frequently get ideas from figurines or toys. I have glass and stuffed animal foxes all over my home.
What do you read for pleasure?
I read Juliet Marillier and Marion Zimmer Bradley. I also find some of Ann Perry's work entertaining.
Tell your readers something about yourself they would never guess.
I have a tattoo of a fox on my left leg just above the knee. It was applied by the direction of Merlin who sent a work order to an individual of his selection. (Of course this is tongue in cheek, however the work order does exist) This entitles me to be the True Druid Teller.
Do you have a website?
I do and would love to have you visit www.adeecarey.com I am learning more and more about the management of the site and find it quite interesting. Please sign up for my newsletter or e-mail me with any question you wish.
Where can readers find your works?
My first book is available from www.publishamerica.com and fiction works and Amazon. The second Fox in the Mist is available from www.wings-press.com and fiction works. I will have a third book out the first of Jan also from Wings. It is entitled Mark of the Fox. Excerpts are available on my website.
What is in the future for you?
As stated on my first book I will write about foxes until I can no longer hold a pencil. Ideas come at me everywhere I look.
Anything else you just gotta share???
Only that I am blessed to do the work I love and became published through constant prayer with the intercession of St. Therese. I will be happy to help any author who asks and am willing to inspire those who need it.
Happy Holidays to all. -A. Dee Carey
