Fiona Neal Interview

Fiona, Thank you for taking the time out and having this interview with us. We deeply appreciate it and I personally am honored to do this interview especially after reading Seducing Brodie MacKay. Rarely does a character affect me the way he did. He is just downright sexy and the way you brought him out and introduced him to the world is just awesome. We would love to have him at any character chat. Okay on to the interview:

How old where you when you first started writing?
I wanted to write since I was eleven years old, but I didn't start until about 1996. I decided it was now or never, so I wrote my first book, The Rose in the Mist, an English Historical about the Norman Invasion. Before I was done, I took trip to England and Scotland, so I have plenty of background to put into the book.
Do you find you're your writing to be more work or pleasure?
Both. It's a pleasure creating plots and characters, and I have a wild imagination. But it takes discipline to sit at the computer when you want to do something else. I also revise things a lot. I guess I can be too much of a perfectionist. Nevertheless, I am always thrilled when I finish a book. I get such a feeling of satisfaction.
Could you tell us about The Flame on the Moor? (Which looks like another great one)
This is another Scottish Historical. It takes place some years after the battle of Culloden when the clan system was smashed, and the folks who lived on the land started to be replaced by Cheviot sheep. My heroine, Aidan, is a countess who wants to help the poor, but she hasn't come into her inheritance yet, so she becomes a bandit, the Flame, and steals from the rich to help them. Her finance is a judge who really hates highwaymen because one killed his young sister. Aidan does marry him, but keeping her robbing a secret from him isn't easy, especially since he suspects her every move.
You mention that you like time travel. Do you have a favorite author that writes about time travel?
I would love to do a paranormal: one that goes back and forth in time, but that plot is currently taking form. My characters and plot have not quite jelled yet. It takes me a while.
When you aren't writing what do you do for fun?
I love to quilt and read. I love old movies, too, especially the romantic ones. I have a beagle, Russell, who is just wonderful. My husband and I just dote on him.
Can you tell the readers about Seducing Brodie MacKay?
Oh, sure. Brodie is a blacksmith, who has had his inheritance and title stolen from him by his evil uncle, Colin Mackay. Colin is married to the voluptuous Lorna. There is a tremendous attraction between Lorna and Colin, but they keep their distance because they are honorable people. When Colin dies suspiciously, Lorna pretends she pregnant. She wants to stay on to keep the estate from falling into Ewan Mackay's hands because he is a cruel person and will continue where Colin left off. She also wants to prevent her father from marrying off her younger sister to an old drunk, as he did to her. Meanwhile, Brodie wants his estate back and searches for his parents' marriage lines, which Colin has told him are hidden in Kirkmoor Castle. When Lorna learns about Brodie's true heritage, she propositions him in the hope that when she will become pregnant. That way, Kirkmoor will return to it proper line. Also Brodie will leave the forge and take part in the education and rearing of his son. All though he desires her, Brodie thinks Lorna will get pregnant and kill him since he suspects that all she wants is Kirkmoor. He suspects she may have had something to do with Colin's death. Furthermore, there is a murderer stalking the glen.
How did you come up with him?
He is sort of a composite of characteristics. I was in Scotland and there was a tour guide in Edinburgh that was absolutely, drop-dead-in-your-tracks gorgeous, although he didn't have auburn hair. My husband is a big, tall guy, too. I also got the idea of the stolen inheritance from an old movie.
Who is your favorite character from the book?
It's Brodie. I guess I just fell in love with him. He really is a nice guy, even if he pigheaded. I always kind of fall in love with my heroes.
Where is your favorite place to travel?
Scotland, England, and the New England States, which is where I grew up. I was born in Providence, Rhode Island.
Do you collect anything?
Yes. I have a Christmas village.
What is your biggest weakness when it comes to food?
Oh, God! I LOVE desserts, especially whipped cream. Pizza is another one. French fries, all the soft that is terrible for you. I am also a tea addict. I have a friend from Edinburgh and when she and I get together, we'll demolish at least two pots of hot tea.
Do you believe in writers block and if so how do you get around it?
Oh, I think you can't get stymied. No doubt about that! You can get an idea, but seeing it through to its logical conclusion is something else. The best way to get around that is to plot carefully. An old English professor once said to just keep writing.
What inspires you to write?
Everything. It can be a picture, a line from a song, something someone said, an historical character I've read about, or historical event.
What are you working on now?
A story about Restoration England. It was an exciting time, one full of sex and intrigue.
Is there anything else you would like your fans to know about you? Please include an except from any of your books.
Well, I just love writing, and I hope that I provide a little entertainment and diversion from the troubles of the world. I love working with New Concepts Publishing. Any one who is interested can read excerpts from all my books if they log on to New Concepts Publishing
Thank you again Ms. Neal and the best of luck with all your books coming out. Please keep Fallen Angel Reviews in mind on all your upcoming and old books. We love to review. Oh and any more men like Brodie send my way.
