Congratulations on your newest release,
Private Pleasures!
This year has been a busy year for you as far as releases go. To name a few in January you had a re-release of
Enchantress Mine, in February The Dragon Lord’s Daughter was released and now you have
Private Pleasures out.
With books coming out left and right how do you have time to write? Do you have a scheduled time that you make yourself write?
I do 2 books a year. Once each title is in the final stages of
production I don't have to be
involved. I write 'em, the publisher publishes them. I don't have to
make myself write. I love
to write. I work 6 days a week from mid-morning until dinner time. I
take time out for lunch
and a half-hour of meditation/nap. It's a regular routine for me.
The Dragon Lord’s Daughters is an excellent book. Where did you get the idea for this story?
Actually I planned a 3 book series, but there was just one book left on
my Kensington contract.
The one thing that made this book unique was how you incorporated each sister’s tale into one main story. What made you decide to do it this way rather than having an individual story for each?
So I made each story a novella instead of a full novel. A 3-in-1.
The idea for each tale was
already there. They usually are, thank goodness!
For our readers who want to know what
Private Pleasure is about can you give them a little teaser? *Psst I hear this one is going to be hot!*
It's very HOT! It's super erotic. It's too difficult to explain
without going into a great deal
of detail. I suggest a visit to the Bookshelf page of my website at
BertriceSmall.com for a
sneak peek at the cover copy.
Do you have a favorite character of yours or a favorite book? If so, why?
I think my favorite female character is Cyra Hafise, THE KADIN. She
was my first heroine, and
probably the first kick-butt non-victim heroine written in a day when
all the other historical
romance heroines were swooning away at the sight of a manly bared
chest. My favorite male
character is Francis Stewart-Hepburn just because. And a close second
is Adam de Marisco
because of his deep love for Skye, and his strong honest ethic.
Most authors are usually inspired by other authors. Do you have any that you feel have inspired you?
Children's author, Ivy Bolton who wrote from the 1930s to the 1950s.
Anya Seton. Jan
Westcott, Sergeanne Golon, Frank Yerby, Thomas Costain, Samuel
Schellenbarker.
Do you have a certain ritual you do on the day of a release?
I usually don't even know what day a book is released unless someone
has bothered to tell
me. The author is always the last to know. And I'm usually too busy
working.
Are you currently working on your next book? If so can you tell us a little about what to expect in the future?
LARA is the book I'm working on now for HQN. It's a
faerie-tale/fantasy in the first book of
The World of Hetar. It should be out in June 2005.
How has being published changed you as a person?
I don't think it has. I've always been outspoken, intolerent of
fools, and creative. I love my
family, my pets, my work.
Besides writing what are some other interests you have?
I get to have other interests? LOL! I have little time for other
stuff, but I have a garden I
enjoy working in now and again, and I love television.
Is there anything you would like to add?
Just to say thank you for taking this time to interview me, and ask if
you would please post
the interview date on my message board on my site so my lively
ladies who are my regulars
can read it. God bless!
Thank you very much, Bertrice, for taking time out to answer these questions for us. We want to wish you success on your next release in October of
Philippa.
