Linda Andrews Interview

What are you currently working?

At the moment I am working on a Halloweened themed sequel to The Christmas Village. Nicholas Dugan searches for the truth behind the family curse while trying to find out who is the Prankster creating havoc in town. Naturally, he finds love along the way.

Who do you consider to be an excellent author and why?

Far and away, my favorite romance author is Linda Howard. Her voice, the variety of her storylines and the awesome sexual tension between her characters made her one of the few authors I remember.

What, to you, makes the best publisher?

The best editors. They are the ones that stay true to the author's character, story and voice.

What does your working space look like?

I don't have a dedicated workspace. With three kids, two dogs and two cats, I write anywhere I can find room to place my laptop.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

You know, everyone asks about spare time. I don't seem to have any and I'm beginning to think it was stolen. Seriously, I love to swim, walk the dogs, work on home improvement projects, quilt, cross stitch, cook, read, watch Science fiction programs with my husband and play games with the kids.

Tell your fans something personal about you. Something they would want to know.

The world I live in is a lot stranger than the worlds I write about and I wouldn't have it any other way.

What is your favorite type of genre to write?

It has to be paranormal romance. My family says it is because I am abnormal but I just love to prod my imagination with those 'what if' questions.

To read?

I love mysteries. When I first started writing, I planned to write romantic suspense. Seven years later, I finally managed to do that.

Do you owe your success to anyone?

My husband has been tremendously supportive. He bought me my laptop with money from a small inheritance. He also makes me laugh over those rejections all writers receive.

Did you always know you wanted to be a writer?

Are you kidding? Writing was just too hard and punctuation made very little sense. I preferred science and math where there were steadfast rules based on logic and principles. Now, I've learned to appreciate the challenge of writing and have a great editor who takes care of the more obscure punctuation rules.

What was the first story you ever wrote and what kind of reviews did you receive?

I think I'll plead the fifth on this. (Yes, it was that bad.)
Can you please tell us either about the book you are writing now or the last one published?

Batty Aunts and Dead Relatives is the sequel I mentioned above. I'm having a blast bringing Halloween alive through the eyes of my witch heroine, Avalon Lynch and scaring the daylights out of Nicholas Dugan.

What is a typical day like for you?

I rise at 5, feed the dogs, feed my husband, pack his lunch and take him to the bus stop come back home and see if I can grab another 20 minutes of sleep then stretch, wake the kids, feed them breakfast and make their lunch. Then I eat breakfast and make my lunch, find shoes, backpacks, clothes and books drive them to their schools then go to work. After work, I pick them up, drive home, make dinner, take the dogs for a walk then go for a swim. Help the kids with their homework/reading until they are tucked into bed then I stare unseeingly at the TV until they are asleep and I pass out. I write on weekends or early in the morning when the kids are still asleep in lieu of stretching.

What is the best advice you can give to new authors?

Be true to the voice inside your head and listen to your characters. They usually know what is best for the story.

Is there anything else you would like to tell your fans?

Every one of my stories never traveled the roads I had planned but I hope you enjoyed the trip.
