Esther Mitchell Interview

Welcome to Fallen Angel Reviews Esther Mitchell! I would like to thank you for taking time out of your schedule to interview with us.

Glad to be here.
Have you always wanted to be a writer?

*smile* For as long as I can remember. My parents joke that I was born with a pen in my hand. I started creating little stories in my head before I even learned to read or write, and once I learned how to write, people said they never saw me without a notebook and pen.
Who or what inspired you?

Hmmm... I can't rightly say. I don't know that any one event or person has that function in my writing.
How did you feel when you first got published?

*laugh* Stunned! I think I'd got so used to being rejected that I didn't really believe it, at first.
Are you working on anything at the moment?

*GRIN* Too much, maybe. I have a ton of projects coming up for the next year, and even after that. Triskelion Publishing has me booked full for a while!
What can we look forward to from you in the future?

Well, more Underground, for definite! Rick and Tamia and the rest of the Commandos will be back next year, with more of the hunt for the mole. I've also got books due out this Fall with Triskelion Publishing's continuity series', Curse of the Midnight Star, and Operation:Pleiades, plus the start of a thrilling new series of my own, Bradbury Bunker, which debuts with Sight Unseen, a sexy, chilling mystery/suspense. Then, in January, I've got Tempting Fate a hot novel about a wizard who'll melt your socks off and his headstrong apprentice. After that, I've got several new series' coming out, including another Futuristic, and a paranormal military series, Project Prometheus. Which do you prefer writing, single titles or series and why?

*laugh* Well, I tend to start out writing single titles, and end up with a series before I'm done with the first book, so I'd have to say series. I like characters. Secondary characters always seem to have their own stories, and I want to tell them all (probably because I'm as curious as the readers about what's happened/going to happen to them!)
Of the characters you have created, do you have a favorite? If so, who and why?

Just one? Hmm... I have different reasons I like them all... but of all of them, I'd have to say Tamia, from Underground, is probably my favourite. She's been through a living hell, but she survived it. I think she embodies everything good and strong about women, and our ability to rise above our pasts, and our fears and doubts, if we choose to. *smiles* I like Tamia because she reminds me that, no matter how bad my life is, I CAN change it.
When you are not writing, what do you enjoy doing? Any hobbies?

Hmm... Well, I don't have a lot of time not somehow devoted to writing or other work... but I like to travel, and read, and cook. I also enjoy movies, and, believe it or not, have a quite extensive comic book collection...*laughs*
Describe a day in the life of Esther Mitchell.

Oh, my. Um... I get up in the morning, spend most of the morning writing. After lunch, I run errands or do things like that, and then I usually have to get ready and go to work (I work in a bar), where I am until late at night. I come home from work, and write some more, and answer e-mails and such. Then I go to bed.
Do you have any advice for aspiring authors?

*GRIN* Just a piece of advice I was given shortly after my first rejection letter... "DON'T GIVE UP!" You have to believe in yourself, and in what you're writing. And then get out there, meet people, involve yourself, and WRITE! And, above all, keep an open mind.
Thank you so much Esther for interviewing with us. It was a pleasure to meet you!

Thanks for having me!
