Samantha Reynolds Interview
Hi Samantha! We are very pleased to welcome you to Fallen Angel Reviews. Thank you for taking the time to speak with us. From the looks of things, you are an extremely busy woman.
Thank you so much for having me Amanda. Ah yes, busy, but I’m sure being a wife, mother, and writer, not to mention my full time job are things that all readers and writers can empathize with. I think that is partly just being a woman. We all wear so many different hats, but writing I do for me and for people who love to read.
Your work, Bite Me, is currently available from eXtasy Books. Can you describe the story for those that have not picked up Gabby’s story?
Bite Me is a very short story that I did for Halloween. Gabby is a modern woman who knows what she wants and how she wants it. She is not looking for forever at this point but just a good time. When she meets up with Demonte, thinking he is only dressed up in costume, she thinks he is just like her, wanting a little bit of fun. However, once she gets him alone, he certainly takes things a step farther than she had imagined. Let us suffice it to say that Demonte is VERY creative with his vampire powers.
What inspired the idea for this story?
I wanted to do something with Dracula. A hunky Dracula like Gerald Butler in Dracula 2000 but I wanted it to be light hearted and fun. Then while making a sales call I met a man named Demonte. I loved the name and then “Bite Me” was born.
Presently, you have more than one work in progress. Do you write one story at a time, or switch from one to the other?
A Kiss from the Rose is done and now in edits. I’m still writing Blood on the Moon which will be my first long story. I work best when I have two or three ideas going at the same time. However I am a plotter not a pantser when it comes to writing books. My memory is horrible and I know if I don’t write down an idea it will be gone in a matter of seconds never to be seen again. Right now my focus is on completing Blood on the Moon by the end of November.
You mention that you like to have a happily ever after in your books. Can you tell readers why this is something you put in to each of your stories?
Honestly? I have to tell you, there is so much depressing stuff in the news these days that if I want heartbreak I only have to turn on the news or read the newspapers. I want a happy ending because I need to know that people can make it and be happy.
What has been the most rewarding aspect of becoming a published author?
Hmmm...I think the most rewarding thing is the readers. They make all the hard work worth while. A fan letter is probably the highest complement a writer can receive. I’m still stunned that people like my little stories. It’s a wonderful feeling really.
Besides writing, your blog spot mentions that you enjoy movies and music. What do you look for in a movie?
Oh, I love chick flicks! If it is romance or action, I love them all. The only ones I can’t see are the horror ones, they stay in my imagination too long and I get spooked for weeks.
Yes, I love music! In all its incarnations. Whether its hard rock, pop, Latin, classical, it really doesn’t matter. I danced from the time I was 3 until I was twenty so music moves me. It inspires and frees the soul. Any time I have a bad day or I’m stressed I can put on music and instantly my feet start tapping and I’m smiling.
Who are some of your favorite musicians and why?
Alejandro Fernandez-He’s a Latin singer and some angel up in heaven is missing their voice because he has it down here on earth. I could listen to him all day, and it’s nice because he sings in a language I don’t understand so when I write it is not distracting. I have a bad habit of getting wrapped up in songs.
Nickleback is another favorite. Pretty much because of the lead singer’s voice. His voice is edgy and full of emotion, not to mention he writes very sensual lyrics and he’s not hard on the eyes.
Gary Stadler and Stephanie have an album out called Fairy Heart Music that I listened to the entire time I wrote “A Kiss from the Rose” Their music is magical, I cannot even describe it but if you close your eyes when Stephanie sings you will swear you are in a magical world.
David Lans for his piano music. It’s beautiful.
Blood of the Moon should be coming soon from eXtasy Books. For those that have not read your enticing excerpt, can you tell us a little about the story?
Sure! Andrina Carlton is the daughter of a Lupine High Elder. After his death she leaves the tribe because she blames them for his death. However, there are those that want her back and will do anything to bring her back into the fold...including murder. After her Guardian/Body Guard is killed she is taken into protective custody by her cousin Nicco Thomas. Nicco sends Rafael Price to protect her.
Rafe and Andrina immediately butt heads, they both have very strong personalities and Andrina doesn’t take orders lightly. Not to mention they are trying to fight an attraction that can change them both forever. Rafe and Andrina have to find out who is behind the murder of her Guardian and remain alive. This story is a wild ride, and I hope the readers enjoy it.
You also have another work in progress that readers can only hope will be available soon, Kiss from the Rose. Can you describe the two main characters?
This is a book of the heart. It is very much a romance and make sure you have your tissues nearby.
Kayleigh’s parents were killed in an automobile accident. She is trying to keep the family’s rose farm afloat by working two jobs and taking care of a brother that has gone into a deep depression from their parents’ death. Then she meets Diarmuid, an Irish dream come to life. He smells of Roses and is so handsome it hurts her heart, but he cannot stay in Quinten long. She must make the choice to stay and take care of her family and the farm or leave with him and return to his home. Wherever that might be.
Diarmuid, Rose Prince of AAran is a Rose Fae. His armor is made from the petals and thorns of the blood red rose. However, his best friend had been trapped by the Sea Witch and to ensure Cathal’s release Diarmuid made a bargain with her. He would go through the Lily gate of AAran and find the mortal woman who tended the roses and convince her to come back to Faery with him. If he fails, his very life will be forfeit and if he tells her of the cruel fate that would await him if she did not return with him, they would both be turned into shades. Ghosts lost between the world of Faery and Mortal, forever able to see one another but never touch, or speak.
When can we expect to see these two works released?
Kiss from the Rose should be out by the end of November and Blood on the Moon should be out in December.
Ok, just because I am curious and because you have some very attractive men on your site, if you were to become the leading lady in one of your books, which would it be and which gentleman would be your leading man?
Right now? From my stories I would have to say I would be Kayleigh and my leading man would be Diarmuid. However if you are asking me who I would chose to be my leading man in terms of an actor? That would definitely be Aragorn from the Lord of the Rings. I have a horrible crush on Viggo...laughing. But Clive Owen is quite the thing too. Hmmm...decisions, decisions, decisions.
Besides the obvious success you have with your current work, what else would you like achieve as an author?
I would love to see a book of mine in the library. That would be an awesome accomplishment!
Is there anything else you would like to share with us?
Just that I would like to thank everyone at Fallen Angel Reviews for their support of new and established writers. You all work very hard and as an author it is appreciated. Plus I would like to thank the readers, you guys are the best. Please feel to write me at any time, I love hearing from people on what they liked or even disliked in a book.
