Dorothy Garlock Interview
Fallen Angel Reviews would like to welcome New York Times Best-selling author, Dorothy Garlock! Known as "The Voice of America's Heartland", Ms. Garlock has won numerous awards. I would like to thank you for taking time out of your schedule to interview with us, Ms. Garlock.
Please tell us a little about yourself.
I live in Clear Lake, Iowa. I love to read, walk and travel.
I love all of your books, especially your newest trilogy, Mother Road, Hope's Highway, Song of the Road. For those that have not read these, can you tell them a little about the books?
The 3 books take place in the early 1930's along the famed highway Route 66. They tell the story of the people who made the trip to California to find a better life.
Of all the books you have written, do you have a favorite? If so, which one and why?
Ribbon in the Sky is my favorite because it takes place just before and after World War I.
Are you working on anything at the moment?
I'm working on Train From Marietta. The story takes place in 1933 and is about a girl who is taken from a train near the Big Bend country in Texas.
Do you have a set writing schedule?
I write for 3 hours in the morning and 3 hours in the afternoon.
Describe a day in the life of Dorothy Garlock.
I go to work in my office usually in my nightgown. Stop at 5 to watch Jeopardy.
In your experience, what is the best and worst thing about being a writer?
The best part is hearing from readers and knowing you have given someone a few hours of enjoyment. I've not discovered the worst part.
You write Historical Romance. Do you have plans to write other genres?
Not at the present time.
What authors do you enjoy reading?
Sandra Brown, Janet Dailey, Candace Camp.
Your books can be read as stand alone titles, but you have several connecting books. Which do you prefer writing, series or stand alone titles?
I like writing the series.
Have you ever had an embarrassing moment at a booksigning?
When I signed a book for a well known author and misspelled her name.
What advice would you give aspiring authors?
Write what you like to read.
