Michelle Perry Interview
Fallen Angel Reviews would like to welcome Author, Michelle Perry. Writing Contemporary Romances and Romantic Suspense, Ms. Perry’s books will keep you on the edge of your seat…sighing. Michelle Perry’s newest release, Unforeseen Danger, is available now at Triskelion Publishing.
Could you tell the readers a little bit about the woman behind the author?
I've been writing seriously for about four years, ever since I got to scale down my work hours after my daughter was born. I've been writing stories since I was in 2nd grade. One day, I pulled out all these old folders and thought; I'm going to do this. I have to at least try. I've been very fortunate along the way, and it feels like it’s all coming together.
What is your day like when you are in Writer mode and have a deadline to meet?
I have two small children, so I get up ridiculously early sometimes just to get some work done in quiet. I'm a morning person, so it's not unusual to find me up at 4:00 am working.
Would you please tell the readers about your newest release, Unforeseen Danger?
Unforeseen Danger is about a man with a difficult choice to make. Jake Hawthorne is devastated and furious when his wife admits her infidelity. Hours later, he's summoned to the hospital where she awakens with amnesia after a fiery automobile crash. Part of him wants to cling to his rage, but another part of him realizes this is his last chance to save his marriage to a woman he loves more than life itself. He has so many questions--questions she can't answer anymore. Who was her lover, where was she going that morning, and whose remains! Did the police find in the wreckage? The answers to these questions prove vital when a deadly stalker attacks.
Which genre or sub-genre do you prefer to write in and why?
I love suspense. I have a deep fascination for forensics and a good mystery. It runs in the family. My dad is a former police officer, and two of my brothers are pursuing careers in law enforcement.
Where do you come up with your ideas for books, titles, and character names?
I get a lot of ideas from music. I just started a new project called Paint It Black, after the Rolling Stones song. A good song can make you feel and think all sorts of things. Unforeseen Danger, for instance, was written after the first time I heard, "How You Remind Me" by Nickelback. There was this one section in there..."It's not like you didn't know that. Said I loved you and I swear I still do. It must've been so bad. Living with me must've damn near killed you."
There's a lot of emotion in that. I started thinking about what would happen to make a couple get to that point, and the idea was born.
Character names, I just find something I like out of a baby name book. I have been hung up on N girl names for a while. I've had Nikki, Nadia, Nika, Necie, Natasha. Guy names, I just like them short and sweet. Jake, J.T., Dante, Alex.
Do you have any indulgent behaviors one might find surprising?
Just an addiction to Mexican food, Nip/Tuck and Survivor.
Do you live to write, or write to live?
Ha-ha Well, I'm not making enough money to write to live yet, but I do live to write. I do taxes, and I get really cranky around April 15th, because I'm usually so swamped I don't get to write for awhile.
Do you have any other published books? If so, can you give the readers a brief blurb?
Hotshot--available at Triskelion Publishing
In the Arizona wilderness, a madman's obsession with a beautiful firefighter rages out of control...
Cain and Abel--Coming 2005 with Medallion Press
In Los Angeles, an unexpected pregnancy sparks a daring plan of escape for a battered wife. Jessica Ramsey fakes her death and flees to Tennessee to build a new life for herself and her unborn son.
Five years later, she's finally reached the place where a knock at the door or a ringing telephone doesn't terrify her. Then one fateful encounter destroys it all.
Now Cole knows she's alive, and Jessica's only hope for survival depends on one unlikely ally. Bound by blood, identical twins Alex and Cole were ripped apart by tragedy. Can Jessica trust Alex to save her from Cole's wrath?
Do you have any new works in progress? Can you tell us about them?
I just finished a suspense called The Three Motives for Murder.
Criminologist Arthur Train once said, “There are only three motives for murder: money, love, and revenge.”
Assume nothing
When someone targets the survivors of a horrific car accident, the obvious motive is revenge. But things aren’t always what they seem, and a cold-blooded killer thinks he’s planned the perfect murder. Only newly appointed police chief Brady Simms, stands between the killer and his next victim, the woman who broke Brady’s heart four years earlier. When a relative of the first victim makes a startling revelation, Brady reopens the investigation and what he finds will change all of their lives forever.
I've started on Paint It Black, a suspense about a DEA heroine who resorts to desperate measures after her daughter is kidnapped, and I'm also starting the sequel to Cain and Abel, The Mark of Cain.
If an aspiring author came to you for advice, what would you tell them?
Find a good critique group or a couple of good critique partners. I love mine and couldn't do this without them. Some of the best friends I've ever had are my writing buddies.
Is there anything else you would like to add to your interview?
I'm running a contest on my website this month to win the rose water globes from Unforeseen Danger. No purchase necessary to win.
I'll be at the RT Convention in St. Louis in 2005, so if any of you are coming, drop by my table to say hello. I'd love to meet you.
On behalf of Fallen Angel Reviews, this Interviewer would like to thank you for this opportunity to conduct such an informative and entertaining interview with you, Michelle.
