Author
Mandy Roth seems like she should be living 30-hour days. Raising three young boys and going to school for her Master’s, it is a wonder that she has been able to write and publish one book, yet Mandy has released 6 books in the less then 3 months. Her two latest,
Peace Offerings II : Revelations and Misfit In Middle America, are both part of New Concepts Publishing’s Love Bites collection.
Mandy, welcome to Fallen Angel Reviews! Thanks so much for taking the time to talk with us.
Thanks for having me!
Can you tell us a little about you two newest stories from NCP?
Sure, Peace Offerings revolves around the war between the faerie Blessed and Unblessed Courts. For well over a hundred years, they’d been at odds with one another and when peace finally came it was sudden and rocky. In an attempt at securing peace, the Queen of the Unblessed court promises her daughters hand in marriage to the Prince of the Unblessed. The trilogy revolves around deception, love, and soul mates.
Misfit in Middle America is a stand alone title that takes readers into the life of Chief Adam Sisel. He’s got three dead bodies, a murderer on the loose, a teenage son who’s as Goth as they come, an estranged wife, and the hots for a woman who doesn’t seem to know he exists.
I have heard your style of writing compared to that of Laurell K. Hamilton and Anne Rice. How does it make you feel when you hear that?
At first, I wasn’t sure I liked being compared to anyone. After giving it some thought, I can think of no greater honor than to have my name mention in the likes of these great authors!
What has been the biggest obstacle that you have found on your journey to become a successful writer?
I’m my biggest obstacle. I tend to second-guess myself, my worth, and my writing. There comes a time when I have to let the baby (work) go and hope that everyone enjoys it half as much as I enjoyed created it.
Do you have a favorite character from you own books?
Gwen from Daughter of Darkness is a favorite of mine. Since DOD was the first book I wrote, Gwen shared many of my personality traits (faults too). I can’t wait to dig in and get more of her tale out.
How do you juggle kids, husband, school, and writing?
Caffeine and plenty of it! LOL! My husband is phenomenal at helping out with the boys and they’ve learned to adjust a bit, allowing me to get some writing done.
What does your writing space look like? Do you have to dig to find a pen or is it the picture of organization?
Since my writing time is always crunched between the boys needing this or my husband needing that, I like to have my writing area tidy. If I left it as cluttered as I’d some times like to, I’d spend my entire looking for my notes and never get any writing done…LOL!
Have you ever had to kill a beloved character, if so how difficult was it to do?
I have had to kill characters that I love and it was harder than I ever thought it would be. When I started, I didn’t think that I would ever get attached to any of them. Boy, was I wrong!
I’m working on a sequel to one of the series I have out now and am deciding if I truly want to kill a certain character or not. It’s a tough call and I really don’t like having to be the one to make it. :(
What is the strangest experience that you have ever had?
Getting published has been the strangest experience I’ve ever had. It’s surreal and I keep thinking that at moment I’m going to wake up and realize that it was all just a dream.
What is the best advice you have ever received and from who?
My mother told me at a very early age that I could do anything I set my mind to and she was right.
Do you still get butterflies when you submit a manuscript?
I do! I mentioned earlier that I tend to second guess myself so once I submit a manuscript I start to wonder if it was all I wanted it to be. I’m slowly beginning to see that my manuscripts will never be done in my eyes.
What’s next for you?
Daughter of Darkness is coming out in print in Nov/Dec and I’m hoping that DOD2, The Enchantress will be released in ebook around the same time. I’m almost done with the second book in a new carnal, futuristic/ paranormal that I’ve been working on. In addition to that, Michelle M. Pillow and I have co-authored a few projects that have yet to be released. And, last but not least, I’m working onImmortal Ops 2 : Critical Intelligence.
Is there anything you would like to add before we go?
I’d love to take this moment to thank all the readers for sticking by me and my ‘slightly’ unconventional stories *big grin*. You guys are the best and I fully intend to tackle and lick each one of your cheeks! Consider yourselves warned! LOL!
