Alice Blue Interview

Welcome to Fallen Angel Reviews Alice. I am glad you could stop by.

Your book, Secret Gamble, was just released by Whiskey Creek Press. Jason and Vanessa are a dynamic couple. Can you tell us a little about what brings them together?
Jason wins Vanessa’s father’s ranch in a poker game. It is also her home so she is not happy about it. However, Jason feels like he’s found a home for himself and his elderly partners.

Where do you find the inspiration for your characters?
They just pop into being, unless I’m using a segment from history, then it uses those facts.

Your short story, The Best Kind of Opals, will be included in the upcoming release of Tales from the Treasure Trove. The Bayer brothers were a fun group of men. Can you tell readers what to expect in this new story?
Expect that they are in the process of growing up and accepting the commitments of being in love even as they protest their parents method of getting them there.

What was it like to work with so many other authors?
Very good. You can use each other for critiquing and as sounding boards for ideas.

The majority of your books are historical romances. What appeals to you about this particular genre?
Westerns were always a favorite from a very young age. I left them for regencies, then intrigues, but now I’m writing westerns.

You have been writing seriously since 1992. What made you decide to finally make that leap and start writing?
Encouragement from friends. That bug that bites with an urge where you can’t not be writing.

When you are not writing, how do you like to spend your time?
Family, reading, stitchery, ceramics, farm accounting.

Is there any one piece of advice you would share with new writers?
Never give up.

What has been the most rewarding aspect of writing? The most frustrating?
Seeing my books in print. Doing the selling.

You have written full length books as well as shorter stories. Do you know when you start a book where it will end?
Not always, unless I make an outline ahead of the writing and have an intriguing end in mind. Sometimes the ending just grows out of the story.

In addition to writing, you also have a large family. How do you balance the demand of writing with the needs of a family?
All the children are grown and have their own families. My husband and I are in limbo between them needing us and we needing them.

You have also written a contemporary novel, can fans expect to see more contemporary stories?
I’ll try this one out first.

Do you have any new projects you can give us a hint on?
Hanged Woman Gulch came first, Sixteen Gold Nuggets (contracted) comes second and I’m working on Martha, an over the hill 1880s western romance.

Is there anything else you would like to share with us?
Friends are invaluable for critiques, as sounding boards, buyers and for encouragement. I love them all.

Thank you so much Alice for stopping by. It has been a joy to get to learn more about your work.

Readers if you have not had an opportunity to read her latest release stop by and see what Secret Gamble has to offer. Also be on the lookout for her story in the upcoming Tales from the Treasure Trove Anthology.
