Welcome to Fallen Angel Reviews
Mrs. Lagana. It is nice to have you here. I look forward to hearing more about you and your work.
Your work,
WITH BLACK AND WHITE COMES THE GREY — The Battle of Armageddon Book 1 was recently released by Whiskey Creek Press. Can you tell us a little about this unusual book?
Well, it’s about the battle of good and evil, only nothing is what it appears to be—hence, the title “With Black & White Comes The Grey” The main character is a writer, mother, and wife whose life suddenly turns upside-down when her husband dies in a car accident and then her son runs away from home. Distraught, she turns to her friend Alex for support and help. Little does she know Alex has a secret he has been keeping from her for so many years. If he were ever to tell her, it could jeopardize their friendship. Together, they set out in search of her missing son.
The antagonist is a demon in human disguise, named Nathan. He has the power of telekinesis and can enter into unconscious minds. He can also manifest electricity. He has recruited visionaries from around the world to help him search for the Chosen One and the secret to destroying him. It is through this recruitment, he encounters a very special boy, named Jonathan. This boy’s visionary abilities are like no other. Once Nathan realizes how invaluable this boy is to his mission, he decides to lure him to his lair and have him help in the search to finding and destroying the Chosen One. Little does Nathan know this boy is the key he has been searching for all along. Through him, he can destroy The Chosen One and bring about Armageddon on Earth.
(Okay, sorry, that isn’t a little something about the story, but a big something.)
Horror is a fascinating genre. What prompted you to create a horror series?
I love reading horror stories and always wanted to write one. Therefore, I gave it a shot a few years ago. I first wrote down the detailed outline and two first chapters. After that I got pregnant with my third child and under doctor’s orders, I had to rest in bed, so I put it away and forgot about it.
Then last year, the Executive Editor of Whiskey Creek Press and author, Jan Janssen, read the blurb. She told me it was good and that I should finish it. I think if it weren’t for her encouragement, I would have never finished it. She is so great.
How do you devise the ideas for your work?
Believe it or not they come to me in bed when I can’t sleep. I’ll start conjuring up stories in my head. It’s a habit I picked up as a kid when I had problems sleeping. I get some great ideas this way, the only problem is more often than not I’ll forget about them when sleep sets in. The next day, I’ll rake over my brain, but to no avail.
What do you find the most compelling aspect of writing?
The fact that you can escape reality when you write. You can completely immerse yourself into the story and characters. It’s especially fun when you immerse yourself into your strong heroine or hero’s character. This pumps you up.
When you are not writing, how else do you spend your time?
I have three kids that keep my husband and me busy. They are a handful of fun and energy. They keep us young. I’m also an Editor for Whiskey Creek Press.
Do you ever suffer from writer’s block? If so, what has been the most effective cure?
I don’t write on a daily basis. With my schedule, it’s impossible. I only write when I get inspired, so I can say I have never suffered writer’s block so far. (Knock on wood)
In addition to this new series, you have also published short stories and poems. Can you tell readers a little about these and where they might be able to read these works?
An old short story I wrote, “A Cop’s World” can still be seen online in the Prometeuz editon of Project-M-Zine. A torrid/dark poem of mine is coming out in Bleed My Heart Romantic anthology soon. Another poem will be feature in the October issue of Night To Dawn Magazine And my short romantic suspense story “Unbounded Love” is featured in the LOVE anthology coming out in February 2006 with Whiskey Creek Press.
What else can readers expect as you continue the
With Black and White Comes the Grey series?
You can expect an older and more powerful Jonathan in the second installment. He will battle the next pawn sent by Satan. And even a character thought dead in the first will be resurrected and cause unintentional havoc in everyone’s life.
Are you working on any other stories as this time?
Only short stories and Book 2 of “With Black & White Comes The Grey”. But two picture books (one on recycling and another on understanding traffic lights) I created along with the talented artist, Angela Cater, will soon be coming out with Writer’s Exchange E-Publishing. Mightybook is also making Flash animated movies of the two stories—they do amazing things with stories. You can check out their site at: http://www.mightybook.com/. Parents, teachers, and kids alike will love them. The stories will be both entertaining and educational.
In addition to writing, you are a fan of horror novels. Do you have a particular favorite?
Yes, “Watchers” from Dean Koontz and “The Stand” by Stephen King.
What do you look for most when reading a book?
If the story sounds like a real page-turner that will keep me on the edge of my seat in suspense, then I’ll buy it. But of course, the character and plot development have to be strong, too. Otherwise, I’m not interested.
