Hi
Tiffany! Welcome to Fallen Angel Reviews! Thank you for taking time out of your busy holiday schedule to visit with us. We appreciate the opportunity to speak with you.
Thank you, Jessica. I'm thrilled to be here. While the holidays are a busy time, I'm always happy to chat about my books.
Per you website, you have signed a contract with Liquid Silver Books for another story in the
Fallen series,
Danielle. It appears that this will be the fourth in the series. Can you give us a brief summary on the idea behind this series and this installment?
The idea behind the series comes from watching TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL. I couldn't help but wonder about all those angels who rebelled against God. What if they asked for forgiveness after what they did and for some unknown reason He doesn't? How would they adjust to living in the mortal world?
Danielle is about Danielle Weston. She's a Fallen, but she didn't become an Enforcer who keeps the unrepentant Fallen from preying on mortals. She's trying to live her life as normal as possible. She gets involved with the head archaeologist from the Field Museum in Chicago and things get interesting from there.
Do you have a favorite story from the
Fallen series and if so, why is it your favorite?
I think Dominic is my favorite so far. Mostly because out of all the Fallen, he's the one who has come to terms with his banishment and is truly a pushover when it comes to the woman he loves. Though I have to admit, I think I'm going to fall in love with the next fallen I'm going to write about, Christian. His story is going to be emotional and touching.
You also have another new release in the form of an anthology,
A Fairie Tale. This book offers readers four tingling paranormal stories. What was it like to work with fellow authors to create this?
It was fun. Each author brought a different viewpoint to the stories. It was interesting to see how we took the back story and each made it completely ours. Paige, Jodi and Rae are all wonderful authors. It was a privilege to work with them.
What or who inspired you to try your hand at writing?
I've been writing since I was in 3rd grade. There have always been stories running around my head asking to be written down. It wasn't until March of 2004 that I got serious about finishing a story to submit to a publisher. Leigh Wyndfield encouraged me to not only finish it, but to submit it to Liquid Silver Books. That book was Fallen: Celeste and the rest is history.
What do you derive the most inspiration from for your writing?
Life, I guess. For me, inspiration comes from all around me. Movies, songs, TV shows. Even just conversations I eavesdrop on while I'm out running errands. Everything that happens near me has the potential of becoming a story.
How do you like to spend your time when you are not writing?
I love watching movies, especially action/adventure or martial arts. Jet Li is my favorite actor. I like to hang out with friends and my husband. Any given Sunday will find me curled up watching football or hockey. My bookshelves are filled with books I haven't had time to read, so I might pull one of them to enjoy when I'm not writing.
Tell your fans something about you they would never guess.
The majority of any story I'm writing gets written in long hand. I keep a journal with me at all times, so that when inspiration hits, I can write. Curling up on my couch, I love to jot down dialogue or scenes. I'm not sure why, but my stories seem to flow better when I'm not staring at a blank computer screen.
What is your favorite part of a book to write?
The beginning is my favorite part to write because the story is still fresh and full of possibilities. I don't know everything about my characters, so I'm learning about them as I write. I don't plot my stories out before I start writing. As I write, I discover new things about the story and the people populating it.
Per your website, I see that you are currently working on four new stories. How do you keep each story separate when working on so many at one time?
It's not that hard. Most of the time, I try to make sure they aren't the same type of story. That way there isn't a chance of me confusing characters or situations. I also make sure only to work on one a day. It helps keep them all fresh.
I have found that most authors thoroughly enjoy reading. Do you have a favorite author or genre of books in your bookshelf?
Paranormals and Fantasies are my favorite genre of books to read. I have many authors who are auto-buys for me: Mercedes Lackey, Rachel Caine, and Laura Anne Gilman for fantasy. For paranormal, it would have to be Sherrilyn Kenyon. Her Dark-Hunters series is amazing.
Do you have a favorite character from one of your books that you might be interested in revisiting for a follow-up book?
Mika'il, the archangel from my Fallen books, will be getting his own story because he has some secrets that need to be told. Also, Nevan who you meet in Danielle, is fascinating, so his story will be told as well.
Would you like to tell us about some of your upcoming or work in progress stories?
I have a story coming out Jan. 30th from Liquid Silver called Sacking the Quarterback. Just in time for the Super Bowl, you can read about an ex-pro football player and the tomboy waitress he falls in love with. Also, my first book released from Loose-Id, The Veil: Angels & Demons came out in October of this year. The second book in the series, Heaven & Hell is scheduled for a Summer 2006 release. In the Fall, Loose-Id will be publishing an anthology based on the Mexican holiday Dia de los Muertos or The Day of the Dead. My short story, Returning Spirits, will be part of it.
With the holiday season upon us now, what is your favorite holiday of the year and what makes it so special to you?
I'd have to say New Year's Eve is my favorite holiday. Getting together with friends and remembering everything that happened that year. Looking ahead to a new year where the slate is clean and anything can happen.
Can you tell us about one of your fondest memories that have to do with the holidays or what you have to do or have each year to make it feel like the holidays?
To make the holidays feel special to me, I need lights…lots of lights strung from every possible place. I think I get that from my dad. He decorates his house with over 25,000 lights every year. I love driving around and checking out the decorations on other houses as well.
Is there anything else you would like to share with us?
Nothing except to thank you for taking the time to chat with me. Also, I hope everyone has a happy and safe holiday, no matter which one you're celebrating this year.
