Felicia Forella Interview
Hi Felicia and welcome to Fallen Angel Reviews. It’s great to have you here.
Thanks so much for having me, it’s great to be here.
Your book, Blanche’s Desire, is available from Whiskey Creek Press. For fans that have not had a chance to pick this up, can you tell us a little about Blanche and Payton’s story?
Blanche is a woman who has willingly put her life on hold for her brothers but is beginning to chafe at the bit when Payton enters her life. She decides to ease her way back into the dating scene with him. Payton finds Blanche at a time when he’s more interested in growing his business than taking on a girlfriend, especially after his recent experiences with women. The sexual sparks that fly are too difficult to ignore, so they give in to the feelings.
I’ve made this sound pretty tame, but the chemistry between the two is anything but!
Coming from a large family, I found the idea of Blanche’s numerous brothers very appealing. How did the idea of a woman with so many brothers come to you?
Blanche’s Desire is loosely based on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. So I had to come up with a logical reason for a woman to live with seven men! Otherwise, it would have been an entirely different story. :)
Can we expect to see any of the brothers with their own stories?
I’ve been toying with the idea of giving Aaron his own story. A man that anal and in control deserves to be knocked on his ass by a woman!
How does a character come to life for you?
Wow, I’m not sure how a character comes to life for me, except to say that they do. I think just having them rattle around for so long, since they’re generally hanging around long before I start writing, makes them real. They take on their own life, frequently refusing to do something or taking the story in a completely unanticipated way.
Most of my family worries because they are so real to me (my poor mother thinks I’m schizophrenic!), I worry when they aren’t. If they aren’t real to me, there’s no way I can make them real for the reader.
What appeals to you most about writing romance?
I’ve always been a sucker for happily ever after and true love. I adore the Disney fairy tales. The romances are also my favorite parts of soap operas – I love my super couples! Weren’t Luke and Laura simply the best? They were a living breathing romantic suspense novel. Writing romance gives me a chance to combine those elements and tell my very own story.
How does it feel to see your work ready for readers to enjoy?
Nerve wracking, spine tingling, oh-dear-can-I-throw-up-now, exciting, scary, amazing, fulfilling…it’s a dream come true.
Now a little bird mentioned that you appreciate men in uniform. Can we expect to see more service men in your stories?
There are few things finer than a man in uniform! If only I could get Hugh Jackman in dress blues, I’d die a happy woman. :) I’m sure Freud would have a heyday with my fascination of men in uniform, considering my father was in the Air Force and I’ve chosen to make most of my heroes in the Air Force. But that’s his problem, not mine!
But to me, there’s just something incredibly heroic about a man (or woman) who devotes his life to serving a greater good, who is willing to make a sacrifice to protect even those people who’d rather spit on them.
The funny thing about Payton is that he’s my only hero who doesn’t have an Air Force background. All of the rest of them do, whether they are currently serving or back to civilian life. For whatever reason, Payton didn’t want an AF background. I tried to change his mind, but he won. So watch out, the military men are coming!
Can you share with readers what you enjoy about soccer? :)
I became interested in soccer during the 94 World Cup. Soccer is the only sport my husband follows (he played in HS and for Penn State). I decided that I’d learn more about the sport so that I could watch it with him. I can give you tons of stats and news and all that geeky stuff. He asks me for the info.
I learned that soccer is an amazing sport played by amazingly well-conditioned men. :) Have you ever seen the thighs on a man who can run for 90 minutes?? Or his butt?? Yummy! Or his chest when he rips off his shirt because he scored a goal?? A really good soccer game is when it rains and one of my favorite players is wearing white. I know, I’m shameless. :) Hubby teases me that I can identify about half of the MLS by their butts. I think he’s giving me a little too much credit. But not much!
OK, I’ll stop now. I’m probably boring A LOT of people, who are thinking, You really had to ask her about soccer, didn’t you? But FMI, check out Jeff Agoos or Landon Donavan. :) You won’t be disappointed.
What can fans expect to see from you next?
I am in the final stages of polishing up Ghost of a Chance. It’s the story of Nick and Bethany. Nick is an AF fighter pilot who was killed in Vietnam. Bethany is the woman who helps him go back in time to Myrtle Beach in 1965. He did something wrong the first time around and wound up stuck in his Corvette instead of going to heaven and needs Bethany’s help to get it right.
After I turn this one in, I’ll be working on Trail of Desire about two FBI agents (he’s an ex-AF officer) who are trying to stop a serial killer who is attacking hikers on the Appalachian Trail. In order to do so, they have to pretend to be lovers, sleeping in the same tent every night. How long do you think they’ll hold out before play pretend becomes reality?
Is there anything else you would like to share with us?
As you learned the hard way when you asked about soccer or men in uniform, if I get to rambling, I have to be gagged to stop! So I think I’ll quit while I’m ahead.
So the only thing I’d like to add is the great news that Blanche’s Desire will soon be available as a trade paperback! I don’t have all the details yet, but as soon as I know them, I’ll post them on my website.
Thank you so much for stopping by Felicia.
