Maggie Casper Interview

Fallen Angel Reviews would like to welcome author, Maggie Casper. Maggie’s latest book, The Zodiac Series – Taurus can be found at Liquid Silver Books and Honoring Sean, can be found at Ellora’s Cave.

Welcome to FAR, Maggie. Please tell us a little about yourself.

Hi, thank you for having me. Well, there isn’t a whole lot to tell. Besides writing, I’m a wife, mother to four gorgeous daughters and a firefighter. I have many hobbies but my favorites are reading, genealogy, NASCAR and just recently sewing.

For fans that don't know, what is The Zodiac Series from Liquid Silver Books all about?

The Zodiac Series is a set of anthologies Liquid Silver Books will put out monthly about the time of the change from sign to sign. Many of the anthologies are paired author to author but a few slots were left open as part of a contest LSB is holding so if you are not an LSB author and would like to become one, drop on over to their website and check out the contest rules.

Please tell us about your latest book(s).

My contribution to The Zodiac Series: Taurus is Cosmic Sensations. In Cosmic Sensations you will read about John Richardson and Zoe Hamilton. These two are complete opposites who, for love, are able to find the light at the end of the tunnel.

Safe Sex, the other book in the Taurus anthology was written by Dee S. Knight. Dee was wonderful to work with and I hope I get the chance to do so again!

Do you have a set schedule for writing or do you just go with the flow?

Normally I try to write everyday. However, sometimes life just gets in the way and I’ve got no choice but to roll with the flow.

Why did you decide to write romance novels?

Mainly because I love reading them. It’s like getting a mini vacation in every book. Being able to offer that experience to a reader through one of my books is a dream come true.

Do you control your characters or do they control you?

They definitely control me. Every time I have tried to steer a character into a direction other than they insist, my muse becomes silent. Frustrating beyond belief!

What can reader expect to see from you in the future?

In June O’Malley Wild – Hayden’s Hellion will release at Ellora’s Cave. I’ve got some stuff in with my editor right now and am getting close to finishing a follow up of California Cowboy with the working title of The Chance Of A Lifetime.

What would we find on your bookshelf?

Anything Diana Palmer, The Calder Series by Janet Dailey, Sheri Whitefeather, Sarah McCarty… These are among my favorites but there are many more. I will read just about any romance/erotic romance genre, it pretty much just depends on my mood.

Having four kids myself, just how do you find the time to be a mother of four, a multi-published author and work as an EMT and fire fighter?

I learned early on that if you don’t prioritize, you’re screwed. My family is first and foremost, after that being a writer and firefighter are extremely important so I do what I have to to make time for both. I would say the thing that suffers most is a social life so I have to be sure and make time for going out with the girls once in a while but in the end it works… most of the time. =-)

What do you do to relax?

I’ve been teaching myself to sew and while it can be extremely frustrating when all doesn’t go well, it relaxes me almost as much as curling up with a good book. There are also those days when going out to lunch with a friend and chatting about everything and nothing is the only thing to stop me from clawing my hair out.

What makes a great romance book to you?

Lots of emotion. I love to be able to put myself in the book, to feel the emotion of the characters whether it be love, hate, fear, triumph etc. And we can’t forget the happily ever after. A romance is not a romance without it.

Can you give us a sneak peak into any upcoming books?

I’d be glad to. Here is an excerpt of Hayden’s Hellion due to release at Ellora’s Cave on June 15, 2005.

O’Malley Wild - Hayden’s Hellion
by Maggie Casper

At twenty-four, Austin Calhoun was about as wild as the Old West. She enjoyed having fun and could care less what others thought of her. She had an independent streak a mile wide and figured it wasn’t her problem if the old biddies in town didn’t like the fact she made her money holding sensual parties. Hell, they probably wouldn’t know what a vibrator was if they sat on one.

Just because she didn’t dress in fancy clothes and run off to an office every morning didn’t mean her job wasn’t legitimate. She received a very nice quarterly check. It might not be enough for a lot of extra things, but she was a simple woman happy living a simple life.

As long as she had the necessities, she would be fine. A bit of extra gas money for Jolene and she was doing wonderful. After all, Jolene had been with her through the good and the bad. Just as good as any friend and usually a lot more fun, her maroon nineteen seventy-six Chevy Caprice Classic was fast and sleek and could glide over the roughest terrain without fussing a bit.
Of course, it was also the same vehicle that kept her in trouble with Judge Gumar. Just because she had a penchant for speeding and an accumulation of tickets due to that fact, didn’t make her a menace to society as the judge claimed.

“Son of a bitchin’ asshole,” she mumbled, continuing her tirade as she stomped to her car. “I ought to drive Jolene right up his fat ass…”

Her bitch-a-thon was cut short when she ran into a brick wall—only this brick wall had arms. Both of those arms were wrapped around her like steel bands, tight and unbending. Whoever it was may have just been trying to steady her, but instead, she felt penned in, which added to her flaming temper, pissing her off even more.
Her struggles ceased when the breath was squeezed from her lungs. The stranger holding her set her back at arms length.

“Settle down,” was the growled command.

Stiffening as she recognized the voice, Austin slowly tilted her head back to see if she was right. Did the gravely voice belong to Hayden O’Malley? Tipping it even further, she followed the expanse of his broad chest until she was staring into hazel eyes so cold they could chill even the hottest Texas day.

“I should have known,” she bit out as she separated herself from his grasp. “Started out a bad day, might as well fuck it up real proper like,” she said as she propped her hands on the generous swell of her hips.

From the top of his hat to the toe of his scuffed boots, Hayden O’Malley was cowboy through and through, the last of a dying breed. His jeans fit him like a second skin. Faded white in just the right spots, they were sexy as hell.

The way his blue snap-front chambray shirt was stretched taut across his chest made her mouth water. Damn, what she wouldn’t give to ride him like the wind. Carefree and wild, it would be a momentous occasion.

“I don’t know what’s eating you, little girl, but don’t you go taking it out on me. And I warned you about that nasty mouth of yours.” His voice was low, ominous. It grated across her flesh as she imagined his five o’clock stubble would, invigorating every nerve ending in the process.

“Don’t go gettin’ all high and mighty on me, Hayden. I’m a grown-ass woman now and I’ll thank you to remember that. Besides, I’ve got every reason to be mad.”

“Not a good enough reason for the filth spilling from your mouth. You still aren’t too big to paddle even if you are a woman now,” he said, looking down at her from his towering height.
Sometimes being short sucked. Her five foot, two inch frame looked dwarfed next to Hayden’s six-foot height. It was one of the many things that attracted her to the rugged rancher.

“Oh, hell, Hayden, when are you gonna get over it. I was nine years old the last time you whipped my ass. I don’t sneak cigarettes anymore so you accomplished your task.”

“I’d say from the sound of it you’re due another round.” He sounded as if his patience was running short. It was probably a good time to back off just a bit. The man always followed through with a threat, and she had no desire to have her ass paddled in front of half the town.

“All right already, calm down,” she said giving him a mischievous grin. “I’ll behave.”

If you could go anywhere, be anyone, do anything for 24 hours, what would it be?

I’d like to be in the Scottish Highlands of 1515 arguing non-stop with Grimm but that is because I read Karen Marie Moning’s To Tame A Highland Warrior last night. If I had to answer the same question tomorrow I could very well be a debutant, cowgirl, the rich corporate type etc… it all depends on which books sucks me in next. LOL

What question would you love to answer that I didn't ask?

I can’t think of a thing. Seems like you covered it all, the good the bad and the ugly.

Thank you Maggie, for being here with us today.
