Kari Kincaide Interview

Kari Kincaide is a newly published author with Silk's Vault. Hi Kari and welcome to Fallen Angel Reviews.

Please tell us a little about yourself.
I am single and live in San Francisco, California. I work 40 hours a week doing technical support. I always thought about writing but never took that big leap. As a child, I tried writing poems, but they sound so blah that I threw them away. I was always afraid that what I write did not sound too good, or that it sound blah. It was only recently that I gather enough courage (with encouragement from friends and co-workers) to write. I was very excited that my first book got published.

A Faerie’s Love is your first release with Silk's Vault, what’s it about?
It is about a shape-shifter and a faery. The shape-shifter was the last of his kind and he had all but given up looking for his kind when he happened to run into the injured faery. He nursed her back to help and found that the Tr’ol had enslaved her people. He agreed to help her rescue her people with a little help from his dragon friend and along the way, he and the faery fell in love.

>From your website readers can see that you’re currently working on Huntress of Darkness. You say that there’s a little twist can we get a hint?
Oh, that you will have to wait until it gets published, but here is something for you.. it is a major obstacle that the main character will have to overcome (lol). Whether he can overcome it or not, well, that remains to be seen.

When did you decide to take "pen in hand" and write with the intent to publish?
It was actually at the encouragement from friends and family that I started to write. But there is one thing I think that really made me decide to tackle that feat. Like I said I was like scare letting others read my work and getting it shot down. I was diagnosed with breast cancer last year and during that time, I gathered my courage and actually started to write. Friends that I let critique my work encouraged me to send it in a publisher.

As a new author yourself, do you have any advice for aspiring authors?
Yes, don’t let fear stop you from reaching your goal. Also, we ourselves are our worse critiques, however if you don’t take that big step, you don’t know what opportunities are out there.

What does your working space look like?
LOL, it varies. I write in a notebook during free time at work and at home, I have this really small space around my computer to write. Of course I would have the television on or I would be chatting with someone as I write.

What is a typical day like for you?
Get out of bed to go to work, come home and turn on the television and computer. Cook dinner and then write until it is time for bed. LOL

What are some of your hobbies besides writing?
I read a lot and I do some crafts. I also collect hallmark Christmas ornaments.

Why do you think erotic fiction is so popular right now?
I believe it is because people like to escape from reality for a bit.

I've been seeing a number of discussions lately about Happily-Ever-After. Do you feel that HEA is necessary to a romance novel?
I don’t believe it is necessary, but I think people like to read that the characters would end up with a happy ending. I know I like to read that the hero and heroine would end up together with a happy life.

What is it about the paranormal that draws you to write about it? Will you be writing in any other genres?
It lets me explore my imagination, give my creativity free reign to come up with new ideas for writing a book. Right now I have not given that aspect a thought, but I may write it in the future.

If you could be invisible for one hour, what would you do and where would you go?
I would probably visit some of my favorite authors. Get to know them and how their mind works. I would also probably visit some popular people, get to know their lifestyles so that I can get some ideas to write my characters.

If you had a chance to either go to the past or the future, which would you choose? Any particular year?
I would go to the future.. Probably about a century from now or a millennia . I don’t know. I always thought about what the future would hold, what’s it like.

What is the best advice that anyone ever gave you?
Explore your horizons and go for your dreams. Don’t let anyone discourage you.

Is there anything else you would like to share with us?
I want to take this opportunity to thank you for letting my readers get to know a little bit more about me. I also like to thank my readers for their interest in my stories.
