Today I have the opportunity to interview
Pennie Morgan.
Pennie, it is so good to have you with us today! Welcome to Fallen Angel Reviews and thanks for taking time from your busy schedule to visit with us.
Thank you, Linda. This is my first interview so, please, be gentle with me.
Would you like to begin by telling us about yourself?
I am happily married to my best friend and we celebrated our 16th anniversary this past June. We have almost 13 year old twins, boy and girl, and 10 grandchildren, two of whom are older than my kids. How, you ask. I was blessed to marry a man with older children who have graced us with 7 granddaughters and 3 grandsons. I work from home and have done so since the twins were babies. I do medical transcription and I am starting a new job in the next few days doing quality assurance instead. At least I won't be typing so hard. We have a bunch of dogs and live in the country. Trees make good neighbors.
What is your favorite genre for reading or writing?
For writing, I have only attempted contemporaries but I have a couple ideas for paranormal. Not going to say anything more yet because I really don't have more than just an idea. For reading, I will read anything and probably have. If it's a romance, I want it HOT, but occasionally enjoy a purely sensual romance or comedy romance. I also enjoy reading mysteries and thrillers, too. Oh, and paranormals and fantasies and… well, just about anything.
Does your family support you in your writing and help to motivate you?
Oh yes, definitely. My kids are thrilled. At the dinner table tonight when I told them I signed a new contract today, they cheered and said, "Mom's gonna be famous." I wouldn't go that far but I'm glad they are happy for me. My husband didn't know that I wrote anything until it won a contest and I told him. He was like a kid with a secret that he couldn't keep and told everyone!
Do you listen to music or watch television when you are busy writing, sort of like an inspiration?
My house is NEVER quiet except in the middle of the night and that is when I work but there is usually a TV or CD playing. If I am working and concentrating hard on something, and under a deadline, then I turn everything off and write.
Have you always wanted to be a writer?
No. I have always said I didn't have the urge to write. Last summer I saw a posting for a contest and decided I would give it a try and it has changed my life. I now try to write something everyday, well at least every week I'm getting better at pulling the voices out of my head and putting them on my desktop.
Do you have a conflicting schedule with other matters that doesn't allow you to write as often as you wish?
All the time. Busy kids that need to be picked up after school from various activities. We finished football but basketball is right around the corner and then volleyball in the spring. I also have a demanding job that I hope is going to be better with the new job.
Are your characters sometimes based on real people or made up?
They are all part of my imagination. The kids have asked that I name characters after them but I'm not sure when or how yet. Maybe in a paranormal since they are my own personal paranormals as only 12 year olds can be.
What would surprise your readers to know about you?
I am very shy and have a hard time talking to people. Though once I get to know you, you can't get me to shut up
What are your goals for your writing career in the future?
My only goal right now is just to keep writing.
Do you ever run into trouble when you are working on a story with the characters or the storyline?
Yes. The one I just signed a contract for to be released in December, the story started going in a direction that just seemed to ramble. Luckily, with one of our many power outages in the past week, I completely lost it and had to go back to an earlier version and start over. This time I took it in a different direction and I think it turned out much better.
How did you feel when you got your first contract?
I couldn't sit still. I was getting ready for a music program at school that evening when the contract came across my email. I let out a yell and the dogs started barking, the kids came running, and even my husband came in from outside to see what was wrong. Wrong? Nothing was wrong, mom was just dancing around the house
Do you have a website?
Not yet. I really need to take care of that but I have been sooooooooooo busy.
Do you have a link where anyone can buy your books that you would like to share with us?
