Fallen Angel Reviews would like to welcome
Jenna Allen. Thank you so much for taking the time out of your busy day to answer our questions.
Please tell us a little about yourself.
I’ve toyed at writing all my life, and just started coming into my own with it. I love to write everything, from romantica to short stories to novels to poetry, but always with a romantic element. I spend too much time in reality, I like to play with the romantic ideal.
Night of Inspiration is published with Phaze. What is it about?
I set out to pen a dirty Wisteria Lane. I wanted to keep that tone, entertaining but smart, something that makes you think, just not too hard. Night of Inspiration is the story of two women, Cassie & Megan, and how they deal with their roles as wife, how that defines them.
Can you tell us a little about your other upcoming works?
My first category romance, Just One Spark, will be released by Mills & Boon’s Modern Extra Sensual line in May 2006. It will be available in the UK and from www.eharlequin.com
What does your working space look like?
I write at the dining room table after the family is tucked into bed and before I wake them up.
What is a typical day like for you?
Wake up and pretend to be Supermom until the kids crash, then in get some me time if I don’t crash too.
How do you know what to name your books or the characters?
Characters come to me with a name, strangely. I guess at a title, but editors are great with them so don’t stress over that too much.
I read on your blog (
http://jennaallensblog.blogspot.com/) that you recently received an acceptance letter from Mills & Boon. Do tell!
I’ve penned five sensual contemporary romance novels. Mills & Boon has contracted my first. Now we’re in the process of negotiating the rest.
What do you think is the biggest misconception about being an author?
It’s just writing. Writing is the fun and games. After that comes the time consuming editing, revising, pitching, promoting.
You find yourself stranded on a desert island, what things could you not survive without?
My family, my dogs, and a deck of cards.
How many hours a day do you spend writing?
On a good day? Three. Today? Does this count? No? Then none.
If you could go anywhere, be anyone, do anything for 24 hours, what would it be?
I want to be one of those pampered LA housefraus who have spa days and lunch at the Ivy, then melt an American Express on Rodeo and party up at the clubs at night.
Do you have any indulgent behaviors one might find surprising? What’s your favorite comfort food?
Ice cream. I paint my nails a new color for every manuscript and keep with that color until it is finished.
You have several manuscripts ‘out there’. How do you handle the waiting?
Not well. I am an anxious person anyway, and this makes it worse. I thought selling would calm me, but there is always the next book, the next steps in transforming this from a hobby to a career.
What is the best advice that anyone ever gave you?
Yes you can. I love the easy road, so tend not to push things too hard until I get worked up.
