Michele Chambers Interview

Hello Ms. Chambers, welcome to FAR. Thank you for taking the time to answer a few questions. I'd like to start by asking you a few questions about yourself.

You started writing early, when were you first published? How did you find out and how did you celebrate?
Well, I started my first story after reading C.S. Lewis. I sooooo wanted to be a heroine in a fantasy land with magical powers and a flying dragon to ride. Took me 22 years to first be published with Loose Id. The YES e-mail gave me chills. Then I called all my critique partners and ate some M&M's.

How do you juggle children, a job, a husband, and writing?
LOLOLOL. I don't. They juggle me. I just try to keep the house clean enough not to attract the ants and keep everyone in clean clothes. Some days I make it, some days I don't. I soooo admire women with children. Kids are fun, crazy, amazing, wonderful little creatures, but man-oh-man do they wear me out! I love it.

Do you have spare time? If so, what do you like to do?
Well, I LOVE going to a good sci-fi movie. I'm a Star Wars, Trekkie, Matrix, Stargate Atlantis, Battlestar Galactica, Harry Potter, Cinderella, Ever After, Princess Bride FANATIC. Oh, and reading, reading, reading.

Who and what is on your bookshelf?
Oh, a little of everything. Laurell K. Hamilton, Christine Feehan, Dan Brown, J.K. Rowling, Julie Garwood, David Eddings, Robin Owens, Susan Grant...

I've been seeing a number of discussions on the Yahoo groups about Happily-Ever-After. Do you feel that HEA is necessary to a romance novel?
Me? I'm a HEA girl. Want me to hate a book or movie - just break the HEA rule. I'll kick and scream and growl at you. Grrrrrr. Now, does that mean a trip down the aisle and promises of forever? Not necessarily. But leave me in a happy place or I may have to hunt you down...

Can you tell us about the dream that inspired you to return to writing?
Well, I was running from hitmen in a futuristic setting. I was a spy of some sort and had special psychic abilities that made me a target. (I know, I know...who dreams that kind of stuff? Me! Actually, I have dreamt entire stories. It's like watching a movie in my sleep. I love it most of the time.)

Okay, I just want to make sure I'm not missing something. You mention Chimera and Ghostwalkers as well as Timewalkers. What are Chimera and Ghostwalkers?
Chimera and Ghostwarriors are two series I'm working on right now. The Chimera series was inspired by the above dream. It's my baby. My opus. The Ghostwarriors are a freaky, borderline horror series about beings that enter our space/time through a rift and battle each other through human souls. They are both works in progress and - keep your fingers crossed - will be out someday...

Can you give us a synopsis of the Timewalkers series?
The Timewalkers are a group of women recruited by the keepers of Time (The Archivers) to fix broken time lines and avert catastrophic disasters. They all have some sort of special ability. Aisling can be invisible. Mairi can breathe water. Sasha ( I'm working on now) can pull and direct electricity. They are sent through time to fix things and meet their predestined mate. And when they meet their sexy as hell men - sparks fly! Yum!

Right now you have Aisling and Mairi out at Loose-Id. Any more forthcoming?
I am working on an idea for Aisling's daughter, Emma. I also have ideas for Jenna who was kidnapped as a baby and raised on the Dark Walker world. Both of them have very complex plots and bad guys popping out of the woodwork. Plus, there's the paradox of time travel to worry about as they both will affect their present worlds and their own pasts. It's a little overwhelming. Hopefully life will quiet down enough for me to get them done soon!

Are you working on anything else right now?
Well, my dark babies, the Chimera and Ghostwarriors. I also write erotic romance as Kara Fey and am working on a short story with Trystan and Zira to tie up a loose end from my House of Moons trilogy.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Thanks, Serena, for taking the time to interview me! I love writing and the little kid in me jumps with glee every time I hear that someone read my stories and enjoyed them! Thanks to everyone out there for making that happen! Now, I'm off to eat some M&M's (plain, not peanut) Have a great day and thanks again!
