Lily Ashford Interview
Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to answer some questions for us at FAR- Fallen Angel Reviews. We know a few things about you such as your web site: www.lilyashford.com but we are all curious to know more. So by answering these questions you can help us get to know you.
What are things you are addicted to sensually that show in your writing?
Well, I try to imbue my stories with all five senses – scent, touch, sight, sound, and taste. My characters’ attraction to each other embraces all of these, and the love scenes do, as well, so as to give the reader a lush sensual experience.
Besides being a writer you are an avid reader, what do you read?
Oh, I read nearly everything! Fiction, non-fiction, poetry, essays, etc. You name it, I read it. I have a particular fondness, though, for historical fiction.
Do you have a yahoo group to find out more about your books?
Not yet, but my website has a great deal of information about my books. Besides that, Liquid Silver has the House of Sin forum, where authors chat about books, writing, and everything under the sun. Phaze has the Starlight Lounge, which does the same – both are great places to hang out and find out more about hot new books and authors!
What made you become a writer, and why?
I suppose you could say I was always a writer but just didn’t know it! When I was a kid, I used to write little stories that I’d hide in a drawer and never show anyone. But about a year or so ago, I had a conversation with a friend that changed everything – she told me to stop thinking about writing and do it, already! Since then, I’ve started to realize it was meant to be. As for writing romance, I read so much that it was almost a natural progression to wanting to write the types of books I read.
Do you get all your ideas from being an avid animal enthusiast having frequently featured pets in your stories?
Well, it depends on if the character is a “pet-person,” really. Not all of my characters are. But I love animals and firmly believe they enrich our lives in extraordinary ways.
Being born an incurable dreamer, do you feel this has helped you write really good books?
Most definitely! Like many writers, I have the ability to fall into a daydream, regardless of where I am. Waiting in line at the grocery turns into a plotting session. Dreaming also helps expand the imagination, sometimes in ways you never thought possible!
Where do you see yourself and what are you goals?
Well, my main goal is to continue publishing books readers like! I’m not currently writing full-time, but it is one of my fondest dreams.
Of the contemporary, paranormal, and historical/otherworldly erotic romance that you write which one holds more of your attention and that you lean towards?
Again, this depends. In erotic romance, I write a lot of paranormals, because the genre lends itself to fantastic elements very nicely. In mainstream romance, I write contemporaries, and that is a genre I really enjoy. Regular people overcoming obstacles, be they internal or external, and the astonishing power of love to change a person’s life – I think these themes are timeless.
If there was just one thing that you could say influenced you in your life, what would it be?
Reading influenced me to write, plain and simple. I’ve always been a voracious reader, and this, finally, is what spurred me to put pen to paper. (I assume the question refers to writing influences…)
It seems like you have a busy life, what do you do in your spare time for fun?
I read *grin* Really, I do. But I also spend time with my dog (and family and friends, too, of course!) I sing, travel, explore, and shop! (Along with a perfume addiction, I have a sad obsession with shoes. I just can’t stop!)
Who is your favorite author who is a must have and read for you?
Oh, this question is nearly impossible to answer! I have way too many to name. But in romance, I’ll give you a few: Gaelen Foley, Nicole Jordan, Karen Hawkins, and Sherrilyn Kenyon. Otherwise, I love Philippa Gregory, Paulo Coelho, Anne Rice, and a whole mixed-bag of others! (All of these are must-buys, by the way. I think I spend more money on books than anything else!)
What is the one thing that you do every day that is a habit with you?
I call my mother*grin*
With all those wonderful books out, do you have any coming out soon? Can you tell us about them?
My latest release is called Hot Pursuit, a contemporary novella available at Liquid Silver Books. It’s about “lust in the law office,” and a supervising partner who just can’t resist his brazen, seductive intern. Also, I have a forthcoming release from Venus Press, in the Sons of Zeus series. What happens when Apollo falls in love with a true-blood siren? Fire beyond his wildest dreams, of course!
Tempt us Just a little tease, please with a little bit about your books!
Well, as I said, I currently have releases from Phaze and Liquid Silver available. But Venus Press will be releasing my novella, Song of the Siren, in their Sons of Zeus line. It’s about the Roman god, Apollo, and what happens when he meets an opera singer – a true siren – whose voice enchants him. Literally. Problem is, she’s a virgin and under the protection of Apollo’s sister, Diana. Now, Diana’s a little cranky and won’t let virgins go without a price. How much is Apollo willing to sacrifice for love? Keep watching my website for details on this book, as well as a release date!
Thank you so very much for answering the questions as I am looking forward to hearing more about you and the books you have coming out.
