Madyson Hunter Interview

Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to answer some questions for us at FAR- Fallen Angel Reviews. We know a few things about you such as your web site: www.madysonhunter.com but we are all curious to know more. So by answering these questions you can help us get to know you.

What is your favorite thing to collect? The angels, cookbooks or the Santas?
The cookbook collection is my favorite.

What is the Court of Eros, where you are Dowager Duchess Alexandra? Can you please tell us about it?
The Court of Eros is dedicated to those writers and readers who enjoy classy erotic reading and support genteel conduct within the Erotica community. More specifically, the Court's agenda is two-fold: 1. The avocation of Erotica as a legitimate literary form, 2. Encouragement of professionalism and the sense of civility amongst readers and writers of the genre. Members may take aristocratic monikers, as I have, to demonstrate their ethics and personal renunciation of petty behavior as is too often found in some alleged Erotica forums. I chose Dowager Duchess because of my age. Alexandra is the middle name of someone very close to me.

Congratulations on your being one of the ten finalists in Stella Cameron's 2004 Scarlet Boa contest which you said gave you the final push to complete your first manuscript. Can you tell us about your alter ego, Madyson Hunter, as well as the manuscript that made you one of the top ten finalists?
Thank you. It was a lot of fun to participate. Being one of the ten finalists was awesome! I've always had stories running around in my head but hated research and details. The Scarlet Boa entry was not taken from my first manuscript. It was something off the top of my head that fit the parameters of the contest. That experience gave me the boost I needed to write "Dark Betrayals." I do have plans to write a story around that entry.

My alter ego, Madyson, is a little naughty; she loves twisting a story around to keep the reader's attention. She's still in awe that people have actually read her book and want to read more.

What is the Rare Lily Award of 2005? Congratulations on winning it!
Thanks. It was a total surprise to me. Literary Nymphs Author Showcase gives out the Rare Lily Award to members of the romance, erotica and fantasy community. The recipients of the award are nominated and voted on by the members of an anonymous council, comprised of LN staff, reviewers and moderators. Nominees can be authors, publishers, promoters, reviewers or even readers. The final recipients of the Rare Lily are selected for what are deemed meritorious behavior and/or contributions toward fellow readers and writers.

Is there one thing you despise about writing?
Oh, no. As long as the muse cooperates, I enjoy writing. I do get frustrated when things don't go the way I want them.

What do you have planned next for yourself and your writing?
I'm currently working on a paranormal and constantly making notes as other things pop into my head. I also have a short story that will appear in an anthology later this year. I'll have more on that when we have a publication date.

You find yourself stranded on a desert island, what things could you not survive without?
That's a good one. I'd need fresh water and sunscreen with the strongest SPF available. Books to read would be a real asset.
How has being published changed your life, if at all?
Actually it hasn't changed that much. I'm still the same person I was.

When did you decide to take "pen in hand" and write with the intent to publish?
I took "pen in hand" after I sent a partial manuscript to Gail Northman and asked what she thought of it. I was planning to enter it in a contest. Apparently she saw something she liked and asked me to write the book. I don't mind saying that the thought of actually writing a whole book scared the stuffing out of me and I floundered for a while. When I discovered I was a finalist in the Scarlet Boa contest I had the needed catalyst to make me want to finish the manuscript.

Do you have any special rituals to help you get in the mood to write?
Special rituals? I brainstorm with Patti, my CP.

Do you have any idea what you would do if you won the lottery?
Oh, yeah. First of all, my husband could retire. I'd make sure my boys and their families were taking care of and then I'd enjoy the rest.

Running around in my head is the design for a home to be built closer to where they live. While the house was being built, I'd travel.

Thank you so very much for answering the questions as I am looking forward to hearing more about you and the books you have coming out.
