Maggie Nash Interview

Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to answer some questions for us at FAR- Fallen Angel Reviews. We know a few things about you such as your web site: www.maggienash.com but we are all curious to know more. So by answering these questions you can help us get to know you.

What is the one thing that you would want us, the readers to know about you?
That’s a tough question *g* There are so many things I could say, but when it comes to my writing, I suppose I want the readers to know that although I love a thrilling suspense plot, I’m crazy about happy endings, so that is something they will always get with my books.

If one of your books mostly closely resembled your life which would it be and why?
Since I write suspense, then I hope my books don’t resemble my life too much *bg*, but if I had to choose, I’d say that the personal journey of Beth, my heroine in Crash and Burn, would be closest to mine. She learned to believe that someone would stick around with her for the long haul and I suppose when I was younger, like many young girls, I had to overcome similar self-confidence issues.

If you could pick one thing that had the most influence on you what would it be?
Books. All my life I’ve loved to lose myself in the lives of others through books. I’ve always visualized the characters and made them my closest friends. I can’t tell you how many times I finished a book and grieved for the loss of my “friends”, wishing the story would go on forever. Good thing there was always another book and another set of friends to get to know.

Is there one thing you hate about writing?
I love writing, but the one thing that is hard is finding the time to write. Of course, I’m lucky my family doesn’t get too upset about the messy house that I neglect so I can get that extra chapter written.

Of all your books which one would you say holds the most meaning for you and why?
Crash and Burn is my first and only published book so far, so it’s always going to hold a special place in my heart, however, the one I’m writing at the moment is the one that I’m having the most fun with. I’m sure this will happen with all my books. It’s so much fun getting to know your new characters and throwing lots of obstacles in their path to see how they react.

If you were going to visit any place in the world to research a book where would it be?
I’d love to set a thriller on the coast of Cornwall as this is where my Great Grandfather came from before he emigrated to Australia. The history of smugglers there is intriguing enough, even without the family connection.

When writing a book, what is the hardest scene you've ever written?
Writing the first love scene in Crash and Burn was probably the most difficult. I used to be such a shy retiring type of girl, so I blushed a lot, and squirmed in my seat, and closed the open window so my kids wouldn’t read it when they came near me. I don’t have that trouble now though, thank goodness! Funny how it gets easier.

What are you going to work on this year?
I have another romantic suspense novel started, and I’m writing a piece for an Anthology about the Greek Muses for a group of authors called Behind the Muses. My character is Terpsichore, the muse of dance.

Is it hard living in Australia with the time difference in the US to deal with things?
So far it hasn’t been a problem. I still manage to get to be online for part of the workday for my publisher in the US, and my executive editor who lives in the UK. My editor on Crash and Burn also lives in Australia, so we’re in the same time zone. I’m up early most days so I catch readers and fellow writers then. Then of course there are those night owls from the US who catch me during my early evening when they should all be in bed! You know who you are!

Besides writing all those great books, what do you do in your spare time, if you have any?
Spare time? What’s that? If I’m lucky enough to get some time to myself, I love to read. Purely for research purposes you understand. *g*

With your first book now released, can you tell us about it?
Crash and Burn is a romantic suspense novel set in Australia. Beth, the heroine, witnesses a murder on a train that precipitates a terrible crash. Her injuries leave her with no memory of what happened, but the bad guys aren’t taking any chances. Plagued by nightmares about the train crash, Beth returns to the scene to try to recapture her memories. Unfortunately she’s followed, but Daniel, a Federal agent she can’t remember meeting before, comes to her rescue. There’s lots of action from train crashes, to bush fires to car chases so it’s a bit of a roller coaster ride. Beth and Daniel have a rather steamy relationship too, and of course, there is a happy ending.

What are you works in progress? Can you tell us about them? Just a little tease, please?
I’m in the process of completing a short romantic thriller to send to my editor. It’s not contracted yet so I can’t tell you too much, but it does involve a ruthless cult leader and a heroine and hero who go undercover to catch him in the act. I’m having so much fun with this one. The heroine has been secretly in love with the hero for years, but he thinks of her as the best buddy and partner he’s ever had. Until she’s threatened, of course. Then he opens his eyes. He’s also funny and cute and drop dead gorgeous. I’m so in lust with him. I’ll miss him when I’m done.

The next book will be the novel I mentioned above. It’s already started and I have a blurb for it on my website. Although the title is still a work in progress, for the moment I’m calling it Rekindled Flame.

Do you have a yahoo group that people interested in you can join?
