Trixie Stilletto Interview

Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to answer some questions for us at FAR- Fallen Angel Reviews. We know a few things about you such as your web site: http://www.trixiestilletto.com/but we are all curious to know more. So by answering these questions you can help us get to know you. Being a busy and talented lady we want to know more about you, much more!

What is this we hear that you are opening a book store? Can you tell us more about it?
Yes, it’s Crazy Lady Books (http://www.crazyladybooks.com) It’s an internet only bookstore at the moment and the books are mostly used although I just bought a large lot of new books to list beginning in October. Owning a bookstore has long been a dream of mine but it just never seemed possible. But this spring things seemed to come together for me and I decided if I was ever going to do it, now was the time. Through September we’re running a sale. All the books listed on the site are marked 40 percent off their normal price and anyone who buys four books will get the fifth free. Our default shipping method is Media Mail but we will ship Priority if the customer requests it. Crazy Lady’s stock is heavy into romance of course but we also have a good number of sports and modern history books (courtesy of my husband!) as well. Check us out at http://www.crazyladybooks.com and let! us know what you think.

Who is Karen Troxel?
Karen is my alter ego and was in fact published before Trixie existed. Karen writes traditional romances and her fifth novel, TEMPEST, will be released in October. Watch http://www.amberquill.com and Amazon.com for this romantic suspense/mystery. All of Karen’s books are available in multiple electronic formats and paperback. She also has a website http://www.karentroxel.com

Of all your books which one would you say holds the most meaning for you and why?
Wait a minute, you didn’t say anything about TOUGH questions!

And that’s a very tough question for me. All my stories hold a special place in my heart because the characters are part of my family, you know? Take for instance my most recent releases. HOT OFF THE PRESSES (http://www.phaze.com) is special because it’s set in a newspaper and my husband is a newspaper man and we met while both of us were working for a newspaper. EIGHT IS NEVER ENOUGH (written with T.D. McKinney) is special because we came up with the idea at the Romantic Times Booklovers Convention in St. Louis in 2005. I had never met T.D. in person before the convention though we had been online friends but when we met, we connected and the idea for the story was born out of a silly incident that happened at RT. The first two stories in my SCARECROW & BETSY MCGEE (http://www.amberquill.com) are special because I have long wanted to do a sexy continuing series wher! e the couple grows together over a period of time while working to save the world like the television shows I grew up watching. Betsy and Roarke (Scarecrow) came from all those years watching shows like Hart to Hart, Remington Steele, Moonlighting and of course, Scarecrow & Mrs. King.
So, I know this sounds like I’m not answering your question but there isn’t a pat answer.

If you could pick one book which book or story would you like to personally take part in as the character?
Gosh, another tough question! Actually, I think I’ve been part of each heroine in all my books. I feel for them and the struggles the hero puts them through. I guess Samantha in HOT OFF THE PRESSES is probably the closest to my own personality. Betsy McGee would be a very close second although her life is tougher than mine has ever been.

Besides writing all those great books, what do you do in your spare time, if you have any?
Spare time? I think I’ve forgotten what that is! I do enjoy fishing and traveling with my husband but we haven’t been able to go anywhere since Memorial Day.

Are you under contract for any new books, or have any in the works? Can you tell us a little bit about them? Just a little, please?
Fortunately I have several things under contract. Right now I’m working on a still unnamed story that has a sculptor butting heads with an art gallery owner. On the line are her work and his gallery. I’m still sorta waiting to see who will win this battle! LOL.

What's your favorite thing about fall? (since its right around the corner)
I truly love the fall. I live in Western New York and the fall is one of the best seasons. I think because we know that a harsh winter is just around the corner so it makes the truly spectacular days and cool nights even more special. Truthfully, I have to say the summers and falls here are the best I’ve ever experienced and I’ve lived in several different sections of the United States.

When writing what do you consider to be the key elements of a great story?
Personally for me, it all starts with the characters. If they aren’t interesting then the story can’t stand. I’m also a sucker for stories with active characters. I don’t want a lot of just angsty prose though. Characters can have a lot on their mind and plate I just don’t want to read page after page where all the characters are doing is worrying about what they’re going to do.

Tell us something about you they would never guess.
I’m basically a shy person and don’t like standing out in a crowd.

With all those great reviews on your books can you tell us what you are striving to capture next?
Just to keep entertaining my readers. My biggest fear is that one of my readers is going to say, “Wow, she really struck out with this one!”

What is the one thing that makes you cringe when it comes to doing? I hate laundry!
Any type of housework and shopping! The internet is the best thing to happen for shopping. I’m really looking for one of those robots which does all the cleaning (and not just vacuuming, either!)

Do you have any special rituals to help you get in the mood to write?
Not really. I do a lot of different things, put on music, eat a little chocolate. Mostly, I just sit down and write.
