Sarah Gross Interview

Hi Sarah, Welcome to Fallen Angel Reviews. Thank you for coming by.

Your book, Running on Empty, was recently released by Double Dragon Press. Can you tell us a little about Tom and Libby's story?
San Diegan Tom is a down-on-his-luck off-road race car driver. His wife left him for one of the wealthy drivers on the circuit. The Racing Commission must rule on whether he will be allowed to race in the BAJA 500. His reckless behavior in the last race caused him to blow an engine and endanger other drivers. He takes the driver's training job because he's broke.

Wealthy New Yorker, Libby Claymore arrives in SoCal to open a branch of her successful Manhattan art gallery. She's used her father's name and money, but she's determined to show dear old dad and the world that she can be a stand alone success. Her father buys her a BMW for her thirtieth birthday, and Libby has never learned how to drive. She needs a driver's lesson and quickly.

After her first lesson ends in a fender bender, Tom decides that the only thing Libby can drive is a man crazy.

Libby teaches him that he can't win unless he's in the race. She learns from him that not everything can be bought. Together, they make an unbeatable team.

Where did the inspiration for this book come from?
When my daughters took driving lessons, I decided that the job of driving instructor had to be the most dangerous and most hilarious job on the planet.

Running on Empty is not your first published book. Does the writing process get easier with each book?
The process is easier to develop but not any easier to execute.

As an author, you could have picked any genre. What appeals to you the most about romance?
Falling in love is one of life's mysteries. The dynamics of two people finding each other in a crazy world is magic.

Can we expect to see other genres from you in the future?
My first love is historical fiction. Unfortunately, they are very difficult to sell.

How do you define 'romance'?
The happy, satisfying ending. The healing of emotional wounds through love and kindness. Two people trusting each other and sharing life's burden.

When you write, do the characters or the general story idea come first?
I have these characters in mind and then wonder how they'll ever get together?

What has been the greatest accolade you have received as an author?
The respect of my peers.

What are you currently working on?
I have several projects cooking, a contemporary set in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and a Historical set in Edwardian England.

Since we all need a break, if you could be or do anything for a day, what would you do or who would you be?
What a great question! So full of interesting possibilities. I'd love to be a Harlequin Editor for a day. I can't imagine what that would be like, but it seems like the life of an editor would be exciting.

Is there anything else you would care to share with us?
I would like to thank my publisher, Double-Dragon-ebooks.com for taking a chance with my books. This publisher is very innovative and many of the books on the list are unique.
Also, I really appreciate the opportunity to be interviewed. Fallen Angel Reviews is a great asset to the writing community. Without independent reviews, a writer wouldn't be able to learn and improve her craft. And thanks to Amanda for her thoughtful questions. Answering them has been fun.

Thank you Sarah for taking time to speak with us. I have enjoyed getting to hear more about your work. Readers, stop by Sarah’s site, http://authorsden.com/sarahrgross, to see what new things she is working on.
