Vivi Anna Interview

Hi Vivi! Welcome to Fallen Angel Reviews! Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to visit with us.
Thanks Jessica! I’m always happy to be at FAR!

In your story Hungry Like the Wolf, you have created a story about a werewolf that is sure to have any reader engrossed in the story until it has fully concluded. Have you always had an interest in Werewolves?
I like all supernatural beings. American Werewolf in London started my fascination. I love that movie, and I thought the character was so tortured. I love to torture a character…er, I mean I love tortured characters! LOL

Werewolves are fun, and they touch on our baser human desires. Food and sex…

Hungry Like the Wolf brings back the character of Garrick Blackthorn from the story Bad to the Bone. Do you plan to have any story after Hungry Like the Wolf involving Garrick or another member of his team?
Don’t know. If I get a hundred letters asking for more, I sure will. Tommy might need a story of his own…;-)

Per your website, I see that you have just signed a three-book deal with Kensington Books. Can you give up a little hint about these three books?
I’m very excited about this deal! The first book will be in an anthology with Kate Douglas, called SEXY BEAST. My story is about a shape-shifting jaguar, and is based loosely on Mayan mythology.

The second book to come out will be an expanded version of HELL KAT. This is the book that did the deal, and is still one of my favorites, so I’m extremely excited about it.

And the third book will be a sequel to Hell Kat, called INFERNO.

Do you prefer to write a series or individual stand-alone stories?
I’m really beginning to like series. Now when I have a new idea, I think in multiple books. Would this work for three or more books? I do have a couple stand alones in the works, one of them could end up being a series, but I have to wait to see how big of a story I have. Sometimes, a story doesn’t warrant a series. And I hate seeing series coming out with the same story recycled over and over again. Waste of good writing time if you ask me.

What is your favorite type of genre to write?
Paranormal or fantasy. I love that there are no boundaries. I hate boundaries! LOL Everything I’m writing right now and for the near future will be in those genres.

But that’s not to say, I don’t have a few contemporaries sitting around waiting to be written. I do! Many actually. If a market comes available for them, I’ll write them.

From what do you derive the most inspiration for your writing?
Movies. I’m a visual person. When I write I see everything in my mind like a film. I’m thinking how will that scene look on the scene…how will that dialogue sound. I have written six screenplays (still unproduced) and I think that’s how I translate my writing.

Do you have any special rituals to help you get in the mood to write?
Not really. I do need it to be quiet. And I have to have something fizzy to drink. I usually drink Pepsi, but am trying to wean myself off it. Too disastrous to my stomach and to the waistline!

Since everybody needs a break, even when doing something they love, how do you like to
spend your time away from writing?
I watch movies. LOL And I like to play with my daughter. We play cards, and board games, do crafts, and go for long walks, that usually end up in a park and then we swing and swing. I also like to do crosswords and color. I wish I were artistic because I would draw or paint.

Tell your fans something about you they would never guess.
I’m afraid of thunder, and I hate to drive.

Of all things you have accomplished, is there one accomplishment you are most proud of?
In writing…that I’ve gotten to where I am in only five years, and that my brain hasn’t exploded from trying to be patient working toward that.

In life,…that I’m raising and teaching a wonderful intelligent vibrant little girl that I hope one day can fulfill her dreams.

Per your website, I see your favorite movie character is Aragorn for The Lord of the Rings. Can you tell me what about him makes him your favorite?
I love a reluctant hero. A man who was born to be great, but fears that he will fail. I like alpha males, but ones that don’t flaunt it, keep to the shadows, then when the world is at stake come out fighting and save the day…

MMMMMMMMMM, I love a man like that. And well, he’s not too hard on the eyes, now is he???? LOL

How do you know what to name your books or the characters?
Most times, I start with a book title, and work my story from that. sometimes some words will come together or I hear it in a song, and I think ‘Damn, that would make a great book title!’ and I go from there.

I take my time when naming my characters, and I usually do some research before I do. Hell Kat for example, their names are important. Hell Kat, Hades, Damian, Darquiel, Baruch – derived from heaven and hell, Nemo, Leucothea, Triton, Kele – derived from water legends and names meaning water…

I do that with almost all my books. If I’m basing a book from a certain mythology, or ancient history, I will chose names from that time period, or influenced by that society’s language.

Do you have a character that is especially close to your heart?
Usually whatever characters I’m working with at the moment. But Hell Kat I think will always be special to me. She is the ultimate kick-ass heroine, and a character that I created from emotions and feelings brewing in me. In another time, in another life, she is me.

What appeals to you the most about this character?
Her ability to survive against all odds. She’s tough inside and out. But for the right man, she will her guard down a little and let him in, just as long as he doesn’t want to change it or anything! LOL

Can you tell us a little about your other upcoming works?
Besides what I have coming out with Kensington next year, I’m working on DEMON FIRE, which placed third in the Great Beginnings RWA contest, a battle between good and evil, with a tough jaded ex-cop trapped in the middle..

SIN: FIRST TASTE, a very cool world similar to the one in the movie Constantine.

AWAKENING, a gothic type vampire romance…

And many many more…

Is there anything else you would like to share with us?
